i haven't kept up with Frank's solo stuff so maybe this is common knowledge but his voice sounds so different! or he's just using it in a different way. just doesn't sound right to me in the format of The Pixies. not a terrible song but just doesn't sound like The Pixies to me apart from a few bits here and there

i'm hoping future EP's / whatever have a bit more shouting / screaming / vocal acrobatics that their earlier material had. these songs so far seem like quite streamlined rock songs. i miss the whole 'whoa where the hell did that come from!?' that was round almost every corner of the first albums. and also female vocals. i know they've lost Kim, and that Frank had pretty much gotten rid of female vocals entirely by the time Trompe le Monde came around anyway, but it isn't The Pixies without them, even if they may not have settled on a female vocalist / bassist they're comfortable with

i'll stop complaining about what's wrong with the new Pixies material now and just be glad that we actually have new Pixies material :P wonder if there's a planned album at the end of all of these EP's or if this is how they're gonna release all of their new material from now on. releasing EP's seems like a somewhat safer way of protecting their legacy - you can just brush off a bad EP but a bad album would be somewhat more damaging

Right, this may be a controversial viewpoint but one I wish to bring up on here. Probably something that has been brought up thousands of times, and I'm sure I'll be shot down but here goes...

Why are Nirvana held in a much higher regard than Pixies (considering which band was around first)? Especially in the current teenage generation, with their t-shirts and all that shit. Obsessions with Kurt Cobain as well. There are extreme similarities between the two musically, and I prefer Pixies to be honest.

So why? Did Cobain's death play a huge part? Were Nirvana more 'image-friendly'? Maybe I'm being harsh to Nirvana.

P.S Only a young 'un, wasn't around during the grunge period, apologies in advance :P

Lol, so sad but very true, the publicity around Nirvana and Cobain at the time of his death was huge, together with the nutty boyfriend/ girlfreing relationship as well, i guess the Pixies didn't get that sort of attention. And the die young at your prime and the way he died certainly ingrained him in foldlore so to speak.

If you are a fan after the 90's like me i feel kinda robbed the Kim Deal is not there and that they wonlt go through a hits set. Though out of curiosity i will probably pop along and see them if they play. I will miss Gigantic , Bleed etc with Kims backing and she was quite a good base player as well.
