2014 Headliner predictions

it's a very VERY slow news day anytime any news-based publication writes a story off the back of a betting company's press release which is designed only to attract mug punters. I've gotta say that, even so, I'm amazed that something like that got thru NME's editorial process.

*SURELY* they've got someone with half a brain and a smidgen of proper journo skills working there? Apparently not tho.

Haha no seriously it's nothing to do with status or etc.

Glastonbury doesn't have metal headliners, it never has... why would it just change now when it has a good supply of headliners that suit it already.

it's amusing as Foo's were top of the 1st one for act to headline sunday lol and so was kasabian.

i would say though if anyone has £20 going spare to put it on FM, you know they've no clue when lilly is 20/1, if it was to play 3rd/4th down i'd do it lol

  • 1 month later...

while it can do, it's very much the darker side of light by the time the sub starts usually. I only remember The Black Keys being really too light for them to start but I don't imagine it will be them.

Has anyone while we're on this subject seen Pendulum announced a date with Pro Green and Mista Jam somewhere?

hmmm. maybe. I think they'll hit it hardish in 15 with sub equivalent slots where they can. I'm sure R&L will give them it, hell don't even bank on them not bigging it up and going headline but I think the band will get offered Glasto other stage or sub again and take it comfortable.

I'd imagine Bestival will go for them to headline though.

I still say they'll sub The Prodigy in 2015 at R&L. They have so many options for next year but IOW would do well to secure them, DM and Blur.

But also, a lot of the problems occur between sets when people are moving out and others are moving in. If you had Pendulum and Prodigy as a top two, the fan bases would be similar and the people on the main stage would generally be people seeing both, meaning there is less trouble between sets...

I'm inclined to go for Elbow, FATM and Plan B as subs. Noel if he's around is a contender. Plan B looks to be coming back with new material - he'd take a sub spot on return.

I would potentially go for Example as 3rd Pyramid and maybe Jessie J in the same spot. I think there is an outside chance of Jake Bugg coming back too and playing this slot - he had a huge crowd this year.

Looking at something like:

Depeche Mode

Elbow

Example

Jack White

Fleetwood Mac

FATM

Jessie J

Basement Jaxx

The Stone Roses (There might be something in that Eavis saying defo not this year, maybe already has them on a yes with a new album next year and it's perfect for that slot. I thought year after was more chance but if it's out by next year then I don't see why not.

Plan B

Jake Bugg

Bryan Ferry

Pixies

I think Foals could go where Jake Bugg is if he isn't back.

Not quite a headliner but I will stick my head out and guess Tool for Other Stage.

New album out next year (early according to their drummer, Danny Carey in a widely circulated interview in June I can provide links for if needs be) and I chat to the webmaster of the toolshed fan forum from time to time on their site.... He seems to reckon so too (new album that is).

If they get it out by April/May time I reckon they will be a good shout for the new 'alternative' band they seem to be booking now for the Sunday.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

(They are my favourite band and I am suffering from withdrawal.... Been 7 years since last album and me seeing them 6 times on the tour that followed lol)

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
