That was interesting.

Man United might even come away from that thinking they should have gotten more out of the game. Bayern were dominant for much of the game, but when the attacks lead to as little as they did, and when they're as out of ideas as they were for much of the game, United could probably have afforded to take more chances. They did well to pressure early and maybe that rattled the cages a bit but on the whole, it was just a huge disappointment. If Bayern do the same at the Allianz, they could actually be in big trouble.

The away goal rule means 1-1 is always a decent result for the away team, 0-0 would have made things far more interesting. In the past Arsenal have gone into similar games and pretty much eliminated themselves after the first leg, its still Bayerns to lose but Man Utd have done well to keep themselves in the game.

Man Utd favourites to win the second tie? Bayern lost a couple of players and Man Utd have their blood up.

Schweinsteiger and Martinez being out is indeed a huge blow.

I don't doubt that Bayern are in the driving seat, but a performance like that in the second leg and it all goes to pot. And losing two such quality players will have some sort of effect on them.

I think Bayern will go through still.

Didn't care about Schweinsteiger getting sent of really. I've always been a fan of punishing folk for simulating having some brain cells when they put in challenges like that when they're on a booking. Especially when the guy is way in his own half and there's plenty of folk behind the ball.

United aren't the favourites though, and it's mental to suggest so.

The problem is moyes will no doubt play Evra and Rafael in the next leg.

A big portion of Man United's problems is Evra bombing forward, then not having the legs to get back. If he plays Evra the likes of Robben and Rafinha will destroy that side.

Still if Moyes does win, it will keep him there for next season and domestic is more where I care about them being shit.

This summer was supposed to be signings galore for Barca too with (at least) Puyol and Valdes on their way. Not sure they'll be leaving just yet then.

Oh, and Chelsea seem to be getting brought up a bit because they had a transfer ban lifted, but FIFA didn't do that and the CAS decided that the player shouldered some blame for that scenario too so it's worth ignoring comparisons.

Fifa may be correct, but I imagine Barca have the right to appeal. They don't have to delay long to be into the next transfer window.

FIFA will dismiss them off hand on the appeal. I'd imagine they'd be delaying the inevitable in this case as well. I don't think FIFA would have gone this far if they didn't have enough, and those punishments for those rules are pretty important. It's going to take something special for Barcelona to get it overturned. I just don't see it.

Delaying tactics would certainly be preferable to the club. It'd mean they could frontload their transfers, and it'd also spread it over 2 seasons if it's a 2-window ban.
