For what it is worth, surely a premeditated public gesture is about as bad as it gets? Must be looking at 10+ games.

Yep, that's why I'd say it's worse than the Suarez & Terry things, which can be said to be 'heat of the moment'.

But while it was premeditated there's always the possibility that he really meant it how he explained it, so without any racist intent (even tho it's intrinsically linked; he'd be guilty of gross stupidity for not knowing it's there).

So, there is in theory some room for mitigation.

Has he ever been good? I've never understood what he does. Apart from dash forward occasionally. He cant defend, doesn't get many assists and doesn't score goals.

While I don't much disagree with that assessment, he's still probably the best English right back.

Arguments could be made for a few others, but it's not like any of the candidates would stand out as all-round obviously better than Johnson.

I just don't rate him at all. Nothing to do with press, transfer fees, early career performances. Everytime the ball goes behind him theres an issue. Much like Evra at the moment.

You could argue right backs in general don't stand out though. Its a relatively easy position to play. Maybe the easiest on the pitch as theres a shortage of quality left wingers in comparison to right wingers and you don't really have to be as aware behind or to the right of you in comparison to other positions. You really only have to worry about 180 degrees a lot of the time. Two sides of a square.

Over simplifying it I know but theres a lot of truth in it.

    • Sam Fender, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter is a very bland set of headliners. Commercially successful and makes plenty of sense, but it wouldn't be very inspirising. That said I want a band like Green Day to headline so who am I to say what exciting is.
    • Potentially rogue shout here but could see Rebecca Black in the running for a mid-afternoon spot. I know most people still remember her for Friday but lately she’s been putting out a lot of fun pop bangers, think this could be a very fun booking!
    • FFS why when there are pull outs does it always include so many of the names I had as must sees!
    • This is a pretty petulant stance.   I oppose him headlining because I love coming to Slam Dunk and he would be a very big reason why I wouldn't come. That doesn't mean they can't choose to do so, they obviously can, I would just stop coming to that version of Slam Dunk.   Another name that I'll throw out there as name I'd love is Biffy Clyro.
    • There is possibly a weak link in the ticket buying system, no matter how clever the technical controls get. I just spent 20 minutes this morning hammering the ‘Buy Tickets’ button while the web page kept telling me there weren’t enough tickets remaining to meet my request. Eventually it changed its mind and let me buy two tickets. Most likely because of failed payments in the queue ahead of me. So - just like it did in the good old F5 days - pig-headed blind persistence can sometimes pay off.   BTW, the tickets were for the Whispering Bob Harris evening in the Albert Hall on 2nd December.
