'United deny making an official offer, but an initial bid has been tabled through intermediaries acting on behalf of the Premier League champions.'

Has everyone checked that the third parties actually work for Man Utd this time?...

Actually, there's a possible quick £5M to be made by some random making a cheeky bid, so I really wouldn't be too surprised if later on it turns out that the offer hasn't come from Utd.

It's the sort of thing that could happen around any player and any club, for anyone* sharp enough to predict upcoming transfers and then put themselves in the middle of things.

(* when i say 'anyone', I mean anyone with the knowledge and contacts within footie. I'm not think someone like me could wangle it).

When there's money to be made, people will try and make that money for themselves. It's surprising that it doesn't happen more given the amounts involved in transfers.

Liverpool's aim is top 4. They're on target to do that, unless Rodgers is a scared-of-Gerrard numpty.

Rodgers has already realised that there's better going-forwards midfielders he can use, which is precisely why he played Gerrard where he did at the weekend.

To be sure of top 4 he has to be prepared to not play Gerrard on occasions, because he can field a better team without him.

No way does rodgers have the balls to drop gerrard, from listening to interviews he idolises him. I personally think Lucas out is a blow.

I think Rodgers has been given an easy get-out around the Gerrard issue by Lucas getting injured. It'll put things off for the next 6 weeks, at least.

The team is not hugely different in strength with Gerrard in or out (tho better with him out), as long as when he's in he's played in something like his (more-recent) normal role, so perhaps he can avoid having to drop Gerrard until the end of the season.

It's playing Gerrard in that Lucas role that scares me for Rodger's sanity, but surely he's wised up on that since Saturday morning...?

I would love it if Liverpool put a last minute cheeky bid in for Mata, it would be the ultimate rubbing salt in the wounds move. Man Utd paying the price for trying to sit on a 1-0. I suppose in perspective of a league game it would have been another played crap but 3 points result, but that's not good enough for a game where theres a good chance they needed (and should expect to)tp win by 2 goals.

So ... does anyone wish to say again today that Man Utd will hit title winning for the rest of the season to get a top 4 place?

What we've discovered is that Utd's second string - which is half of the first team - are relegation fodder.

If any Utd fan really thinks that Mata is going to save them, I recommend a doctor.

In the words of even Utd fans (just check the Guardian comments), what the fuck is Mata thinking?

What you on about? Nothing has changed with RVP and Rooney united are a to 4 side, without they are not.

PMSL :lol::lol:

Even when they've both been fit Utd have often been shite.

They are NOT a top 4 side, they're merely a side with a few top 4 level players within the squad.

Which is, in case it's passed you by, exactly what Liverpool have been for most of the last 20 years.

Same as the team you keep worrying about and I don't mean aldershot....

the only worry I have around them is that they might fuck up and not knock Utd off their perch - but it's getting harder with each passing day to think they'll really fail at that particularly as Utd are being so helpful.

Get over it. You might as well get over it now, and save yourself another four months of being in denial.
