How closely do they check the tickets ?

in my experience a lot seems to depend on the weather and time you arrive. If you arrive when the gates are really busy on Wed. morning or its pouring down they seem to check less people for ID.I have been stopped in the past and asked for ID (much to my kids amusement)ticket was mine and looked like me but I was wearing hat and sunglasses so wouldnt do that as it attracts attention even on really sunny day. When stopped I explained I didnt have any ID as I dont bring bank cards/anything of value to G. was getting a bit panicky to be honest and steward looked like he wished he hadnt bothered asking but then he asked for my home addresss and postcode which I gave him and that was enough .

So one of our female friends has had to drop out :( this leaves us with a spare ticket. We are wondering how closely they check the tickets and if we could get someone else in on that ticket so it doesn't go to waste !

Your thoughts please ?

Guy in front of us at the gate in 2010 was caught by a young female ticket checker

She looked very young, and you may have thought a soft touch,..not so.

He was off his face a bit ,and insisting that it was him in the pic, but she just wasn't having it,and got her boss, who then escorted him off site.

You may want to take a chance if you live somewhere near the festival.

I'm hundreds and hundreds of miles away, and just wouldn't consider it.

My boyfriend and I got in this year by using other tickets. It is a risk but there will always be someone willing to take it! When we were queuing we noticed the ticket checker in front was looking at people quite closely so we swapped lines and got in without any hassle. I think the best thing to do is go in when it's busy at the gates as they don't check as vigorously. A friend of mine worked at the gates and a bloke turned up with the picture scratched off so she had to check with her supervisor who just let him in! I have read a few stories on here though of people having trouble so I guess it just depends...

I volunteered for oxfam on a gate last year and there was pretty extensive training on checking tickets (there are so many different types) and photos. We were told in no uncertain terms to question anyone who did not match their ticket and that we would have mystery shoppers trying to get in with fake tickets and non matching photos. How much individuals check depends on how diligent/officious/brave/jobsworth they are (depending on your opinion). On one hand nobody enjoys ruining a party, on the other if nobody checks then the festival could get in trouble (more if it is a fake ticket than a real one intended for someone else) and touts can get around the system. Obviously busier times mean less stringent checks as when it's quiet you literally have nothing else to do and supervisors are watching that you're doing something.

My mate on the gate turned away one ticket this year - a guy who was trying to come in on a ticket with ed sheeran's photo on it (?!)

Each year, I have to remove my glasses to match my photo as the checkers have been diligent, but it is me, and it is my ticket.

However, in 2011, I also grew a beard and moustache (looked like Captain Birdseye, instead of Mr E) and I had disbelieving looks each day but I didn't have to produce extra ID. There are enough tales of blaggers, and checkers so you make your own choice.

I'm a pretty good match for my ticket picture (I don't get a beard and my hair's always the same), but got scrutinized trying to re-enter on Thursday. Quizzed me on details and asked me for my passport. Said I'd have to go back to the car to get it and they let me in. I know I'd be shitting myself trying to get in with a ticket that wasn't mine.
