beer in beer tents

Red Flag is the real ale bar opposite the entrance to the Acoustic Tent.

TBH I don't mind Tuborg as such, but the stuff at events/fests is watered down crap. Out of cans and bottles it's OK.

The reason the beer is weak is so the festival doesn't turn into the average town high street at kicking out time with a bunch of piss heads who cant control their intake spoiling it for everybody else. Having said that the cider does somewhat disprove my point.

The bar beside the Acoustic had a different selection last time, I'm sure i got a pint of San Miguel there.

I hated the Tuborg beer as much as the next person but not anyway near as much as i hate being amongst drunk tossers trying to prove how hard they are by threatening or intimidating whoever happens to look their way.

Not sure about that manateemike. They publish (by law) the ABV of drinks at the bars and watering down is illegal. I'm not naive enough to think it doesn't happen, but I doubt GFL and WBC deliberately and consciously take the decision to break the law just to avoid drunks getting lary.

I just think that the methods necessary to satisfy mass consumption in what is a farm don't make for a nice pint. The Cider Bus/Real Ale bars have less demand so do a better job of treating the product properly.

Fair point. Plus anyone can bring in whatever they want, be that Stella, K Cider or Buckfast, so if it was to avoid aggro then they'd do something about that surely?

Back OT, the only reason we buy at the bars is logistics/temperature and once we've had a few cans of something decent, the watered down stuff at the bars is tolerable. Just don't think about the cost!

I'd bloody love to try some REAL ALE such as Hobgoblin. I have attended other festivals where cask ales are available it it went down a treat. We get ample supply of cider but why cant we get some of the bitter stuff?

Never said it was watered down.

Your right its illegal and actually very hard to do, there is a ex landlord around these parts missing a few fingers (allegedly from degassing a barrel to do that very thing)

But im sure it was 2.?% when i looked at the ABV last time. Thats what got me thinking as to why the alcohol content was so low compared to normal outside pub fair.

The Red Flag bar used to be akin to a beer festival, but that didn't exactly help me to explore the rest of the site much :)

Fortunately, pretty much every bar had at least one straight-from-the-barrel option in 2011. Bath Gem was in a couple and there was also a bar selling St Austel beers somewhere too. Hopefully I'll find it again in a couple of weeks.

Don't forget, glastonbury you can take your own , veto the rip off prices if you can carry the supplies.. I'm buying in welsh scrumpy in 3l boxes , 7% £7 from tesco. works out 1.20 a pint

Sorry but you cant get away with that claim as I have never seen any lager sold that was under 3.8% in the last 24 years working at festivals.

Every bar and every Pump is checked by weights and measures before any bar opens for the first time and they would close down any bar if it was discovered that the ABV is anything other than quoted.

Most bars are connected to large tankers that are sealed by Carlsberg so trying to water down any Beer would be crazy as the meter on them would register more Pints than the tanker is able to carry and I am sure Carlsberg would want to know how that was possible

+ even if it was not noticed it would mean the WBC was charged for adding water so there would be no advantage by doing so.

There is no way would any WBC staff risk being arrested for fraud as there is no bonus for selling more drink than they actually did sell.

if its Carlsberg then its 3.8% ABV if its Carlsberg Tuborg then its 4% ABV - lists below is from 2012 and you can clearly see the ABV.
