Also, I think as well as italic and bold, there should be a sarcasm button. Its just so hard to tell when you're only reading words off a screen. ( my post of the tent was a joke post! Its a 12 man tent thus making it unreasonable for just 3 people to share it ) I hope you did get it and I just didn't get any replied sarcasm in yours

edit: i do understand how tone of voice cannot be conveyed over efests, this was a light hearted reply and no offense/argument picking is meant.

nah sorry - this drugs/gazebos comparison is flawed on so many levels. if you followed that logic then anything else they say in the fine guide is okay to be ignored.

anyway - why do people need a communal area next to your tent? day and night-time there are more than enough things to do/see and the mobile network is very good now to sort out a meeting place on the fly...?

Before condeming punters for taking up space with Gazebos they should take a look at how much prime space they waste themselves.

In previous years there have been vast swathes of land fenced off for crew camping with absolutely nobody in it all weekend (Pennards for example).

So yeah, I think they need to review how much space they 'reserve' and set a decent example first.

Before people start getting on their high horses about Gazebos: I know the Fine Guide says the organisers do not want us to take Gazebos, but it also says no drugs, and how many festival goers take any notice of that particular paragraph.

Theres around 16 of us going down, all in reasonable sized tents so I dont think it is not unreasonable to erect a gazebo as a communal area and somewhere to shelter from the rain. We would use the space between the tents as a fire / communal area anyway so were not taking up any more space. We will also take it with us when we leave , love the farm and all that.

Can anyone recommend any good gazebos that have survived a festival and kept you dry? Weve all chipped in a tenner so anything upto £130 is within budget!

On the subject of space and gazebos. Does a camp fire not take up the same amount of room? Factor in the camping chairs around it... I mean that fire could be a tent and in the grand scheme of things a fire is more dangerous than a bloody gazebo.

There's nothing selfish about taking a gazebo, people have done so for many years and it's never been a problem, especially since the Eavii started renting extra fields from the neighbours to create more camping space.

If your festival is going to be massively improved by taking one and you're not going to take up more space than you need (e.g. you place it over your campfire or something then take one and don't feel guilty about it just because a few twats on an internet forum decide to get on their high horse about it.

I just don't see why some people around here need to call the gazebo fraternity "selfish" amongst other things. It's hardly the grown up live-and-let-live attitude that Glastonbury is supposed to be known for and it makes those people look very childish. Personally, I hate people who bring flags to the stages but nothing gets done about them so why have a go at people who bring gazebos if they're considerate about it?

My choice of tents is split between my 4 man at 23 kg, or

the tipi tent at 11kg. !!!! I thought they were reasonable weights !!!!!!!

Sat peacefully under our gazebo in 2008, we nearly had to dismantle it to beat the knobs sucking balloons across the path with, who then set fire to one of their tents. Their drug use affected a lot more people than our gazebo!

Walking through the Stone Circle last year to the underfoot crunching of gas bottles, definitely killed the vibe up there.

I'm not taking a gazebo this year, but the sanctimony/double standards is pretty rank

I find the extend to which individuals here wish to be seen to be crawling up Glasto's arse to be rather embarassing.

You know what I like about Glasto? Discretion. The community is by and large self-regulating, and when you try to seperate things into "either everyone does this or no one does" it gets silly.

Now I'm not interested in people getting on their high horse, but I too have a similar dilema. Basically, I like a lot of space so I'm thinking of taping off a discrete swathe of land when I camp. There will be only 2 of us camping, but I really enjoying running around my tent and chatting to my friend from afar. I remember I did this back in 2011, and when I let a passing peasant into my taped off area, they thoroughly enjoyed doing a variety of stunts and cartwheels, until I sent them on their way, so really I'm doing this for the benefit of all.

I plan on taping off between 60 and 90% of an entire field. Now before you start complaining- yes I know the guide asks you not to do this, but as the original poster pointed out, the guide says a lot of things that I have no intention of listening to. So basically I'm wondering what would be the best kind of tape to take with me? Can anyone recommend strengths and textures? How much length will I need to secure the perimeter of the field?
