a similar thing happened over on the Reading/Leeds boards over Green Day. when they were announced as the headliner loads of people were saying it was a poor booking as they'd already played in 2012 - as if that 12pm slot they did on one of the smallest stages in just Reading was the equivalent to a headline slot at both festivals. just bizarre

agreed, i can't see the hatred towards Damon, just becasue the man is successful and talented and has extended his career by being diverse and talented he gets knocked for appearing at the fest with the artisits he collaborates with. He is a long standing friend of the festival and obviously enjoys appearing. Strange .

Gorillaz were okay but the last-minuteness of it all really showed. was all very cobbled together and didn't flow very well. and although it was great that they got all the guests to appear, playing Plastic Beach in its entirety was a big mistake. and a lot of the guests walked on stage to a massive 'who?' - even the likes of Lou Reed

Gorillaz was never my favourite of Damon's projects, but it really lost me around Plastic Beach. They went a tad overboard with 'high caliber' guests imo. I did see and enjoy a few of the shows, but another album of the same would be pushing it. Having said that, it's exactly the sort of thing that should - on paper - work as a Glastonbury headline slot. Just a fuckload of famous people singing your songs. It didn't really work out though. I preferred The Fall

I enjoyed Gorillaz also, but thought the multimedia stuff worked against it feeling really live - made it feel a bit like the band were just playing along to the videos. Also a lot of people seemed to expect him to start playing Blur or Clash songs or something, which was never on.

whilst i i get what you mean, it's not like Damon has forced himself into Bobby's performance. i'm sure he asked Damon to do it and is happy for him to be there, feeling it will add something to his performance

Albarn's been heavily involved in Womack's career renaissance. If it wasn't for him, chances are there wouldn't be a Womack performance in the first place. He'd been retired for almost 20 years when Albarn invited him to sing on Stylo.

Not an Albarn lover by any means I thought Gorillaz were fantastic the chances of seeing Ryder, Lou Reed, Mark E Smith, De La Soul etc etc etc, just a shame Gruff couldn't make it for Superfast Jellyfish. Anyone who does not appreciate the magnitude of the event can go and watch Bastille .......

People should be grateful that Damon gave Bobby the push that he needed to release new material. He also opened him up to a whole new audience, I certainly wasn't a 'fan' of Bobby's work until the Gorillaz collaboration, which caused me to check him out in depth.

If you're not happy about a Bobby/Damon set, then don't go and see it, simple. It's the same for David Byrne fans moaning about him touring with St Vincent, just bore off. It's what the artist wants to do, if you don't like it, don't go.

The point remains that with Albarn, there would be no Bobby set at all. Here's Womack basically saying that he didn't want to write or play music until meeting Albarn gave him the confidence again. To mither that he's playing keyboards in the band is spectacular piece of woods-for-the-trees confusion.
