The Strypes

I saw them last summer and they were amazing then. Been working tirelessly since. Get in the John Peel Tent and see them.

They are, on average about 16 still.

I think one or two are 14. Ridiculously tight live act. Definitely worth heading down for for an afternoon slot.

I saw them play non stop for at least an hour and a half. Sickeningly good. (The po-lice were called)

All us there (mostly over 40) would happily give up everything to be them at this stage of their lives.

I also like these lads. Hope they do well for themselves! They are good with their instruments and, although live their set consists of a lot of covers, they have just released a debut EP with original compositions.

Definitely worth checking out

Actually, I'd heard them on the radio and thought they sounded OK, but was less impressed by what I saw of them on Jools. Pretty bog standard, if I'm honest.

Quite liked Laura Mvula, mind. And Charles Bradley was great.

BBC 4 showed a pub rock clipshow a few weeks back on the Friday night and they'd have been right at home alongside Ducks Deluxe and The Tyla Gang. Make of that what you will.

The Strypes being "derivative" is a cliche already. But show me a band of 15 and 16 year olds who aren't? At 15, Lennon was still playing one chord skiffle on top of stacked boxes at Village Fetes.

I've seen them live, they're great fun. And there was no record company behind them at that stage. And they were the same. So theres no contrived image here. They dress like a standard old school R&B band. Don't see the problem.

I love when you see kids playing so well. Gives you hope for the future of music. 3 singers, 3 guitarists, 3 bass players. They swap musical duties for the entire gig. And they're obviously educated in old school music.

Find it odd people are so quick to knock an obviously talented band with potential so early in their career. They've only recorded 2 or 3 songs! The drummer is only 15 for fucks sake! Hes cant even drive for another two years

Also, Chris Thomas is producing the album. Very interesting.

if they were a couple of years older - late teens / early twenties, nobody would give nearly as big of a fuck about them. you won't see an article talking about them that doesn't also mention how astounding it is that they're so young. fair play to them because they're very gifted musicians, and they could definitely develop beyond what they are now and become a great band later on, but at the moment it's very gimmicky

Maybe its just my perspective on it but they seem little more than Hanson with hipper record collections.
