Martha and Rufus Wainwright

Guest THEBOILERMAN

Went to see Martha W a couple of weeks back in Glasgow with my Daughter (Louise), after the gig she spoke to Martha and arranged to meet her the next day to do an interview. (Louise is the Editor of the Strathclyde uni newspaper)

Although Louise did not put it in the article Martha did confirm that Rufus was definatly playing Glasto and that she was waiting for confirmation of her slot. :)

the article can be found here.

Martha on the Pyramid a few years back got mixed reviews from people here, but I guess you can expect that playing the Pyramid. For me, I thought it was superb & look forward to another opportunity to see her :)

I've never really paid much attention to either of them but I heard a song on the radio the other week that made me think "Bloody hell, that was good. Who was that?"

Turned out to be Rufus. I'll have to investigate further. Any suggestions where to start?

Very happy about this - saw them both last year and both were brilliant. Rufus was playing with Adam Cohen - son of - who was also excellent. Encore was Rufus dressed in a loincloth, channelling Greek God Apollo, singing 'Gay Messiah'. Unforgettable is an understatement. 'Want One' is a great album if you haven't heard much.

I don't want to put a downer on the thread and im sure it will be lovely, but I'm a big Rufus fan and have seen him three times twice indoor and once outdoor , he was so so much better indoors Im thinking of maybe giving it a miss

He doesn't say where they're playing together, but I'd presume that will be indoors? I've never seen him outdoors but got to agree that not a lot of acts work very well outdoors... The pyramid is certainly not the stage I'd choose to see him on.

Presumably one of these sets would be inside, with Martha - perhaps a few songs with her during her set. No way he's going to get 2 sets on the Pyramid!

I saw him outdoors on the main stage at Latitude - didn't think it worked too well but that was largely due to it being Sunday lunchtime and the MOR material from the new album (give me stuff from Want/Poses any day).

I was therefore not too bothered about seeing him - but with Martha, inside, is a very different proposition!

Thankfully, Rufus's sets seem to have reverted back to "career retrospective" as opposed to "Out Of The Game in full plus a few songs as sung by my backing band".

Can't wait.

The lineup this year's so strong that I keep having to remind myself that certain artists are playing. I'm getting so hung up on the Sunday evening that I keep forgetting - Jesus! Portishead! Rufus! Amanda Palmer!

    • RIP Roy Hattersley
    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
