what was the reaction to Arctic Monkeys headlining in 2007? i know now we look back and think 'yeah fair enough they deserved it' but i imagine back then there would've been a fair bit of people kicking off over it?

it's very rare for a band to get so big so fast and have people accept it though. i don't know how but Arctics managed to do it without a tremendous amount of hate directed towards them - i think even people who weren't fans of them could understand why they took off so massively

truth is, I cant remember much about oasis in 1995, but i can remember 1994. I know I loved it though, but I was 19 or whatever and oasis were the band of the yoof for a couple of years. They were great days to be that age, even if looking back a lot of the music was "indie landfill", oasis included. I guess it must have been the same if you were 18 when arctic monkeys headlined in 2007. Sad that that sort of thing hasnt happend for a while, that a band explodes out of nowhere. Mumford and sons do NOT count!

I was at the 04 gig and left halfway. Dire stuff. Oasis never changed their on stage "act". Really under considered and sloppy. Huge gaps (20 seconds) in between announcing the next song and then playing the song being an incredible rookie mistake.

Mardy worrying about age is a sign youre getting old. Disregard that shit. Now.

In your head mate - s'far as I can tell son - youre about 17. Wise before your years with a wide-eyed passion for life and it's pleasures.

Russy on the other hand is a the lippy 9 year old who's teacher thinks is going to end up being their boss in a decade.

Watched him on TV at IOW and my word he was dull. It was like it was happening in slo-mo. That said I can't see him lower than subbing. They booked Elbow before Coldplay last time out. I know it wasn't their first choice but it happened. Noel's return to Glastonbury could get a fair bit of press fuss and if he's doing a one-off they may accept him playing before a band he likes.

I wish Id been there in 94, looked superb. Announced themselves to the world. It was a brilliant time, we were very lucky. Even the crap bands around at the time (Sleeper, Supernatural, Space, Gene) (possibly harsh on Gene) fluked a really good song or two, proving the theory about monkeys and typewriters.

  • 1 month later...

Recent interview about the Teenage Cancer Trust gigs he's curating (next week, I think):

http://www.shortlist.com/entertainment/music/tonight-im-a-rocknroll...-philanthropist

And then are you done for this year?

Yeah, I’m not doing anything for a while. It’s been nice rehearsing knowing there’s just one gig, rather than another year on the road. I’m not ready for that yet. It’ll probably be next year when I start doing sh*t again, I guess. To be perfectly honest, I've just ordered some beautiful garden furniture and I intend on sitting in it all summer.

Noticed that Noel Gallagher is not on the lineup. No real surprise to me personally.

Gone from "Strong Rumour" to disappearing from the lineup page in 24 hours..

Now it's pretty much confirmed that he won't feature, could you elaborate on the raeason why he was put down as a Strong Rumour in the first place, Neil? Just out of interest :)

Yeah i agree, would of made a perfect sunset singalong!

I read the interview before the Teenage Cancer Trust gigs he curated where he basically said he wasnt doing anything after them all summer so i imagine thats why he was downgraded.

I would still love him to be added though. His TCT gig was great! and the appearance (all beit a short one) with Damon Albarn was good to see. Would be great to see another performance with those 2, and wher better to do it!

No chance tho unfortunately
