Getting "Lost" at Glasto

I got lost a couple of years back for a while, I was bladdered. Found myself walking around in the dark in a wooded area, and found a small pond - I had never seen a pond at Glastonbury before.

Woke up the next morning/afternoon, and had strange visions of this mysterious place. I had to find out where it was, so wandered around towards the green fields for ages, because I know I was in that area at some point. I eventually found a wooded area, so walked in and found the pond

It was the Permaculture Garden - a lovely place as it happens, and really quite amongst the hub bub of the rest of the fesival

In 1986 the mate I went with set off across the fields to jump the fence. He wasn't seen again for 36 hours.

He'd got over the fence OK and wandered around for hours and hours trying to find us, and in the end he gave up and got drunk. Then he needed some sleep, so climbed into a hedgerow and lay down in the space he found.

He wakes up the next morning and he's lying in 4 inches of water. When he'd gone to sleep the stream had been dry, but rain over-night had got it flowing again.

He then wandered around for a whole day and finally found us around dusk.

And he wasn't even on drugs.

GPS's? Blimey that's excessive! Get lost! You will enjoy it more that way, and not be fretting every 5 mins about losing your precious Gps which will be a darn sight more useful on Dartmoor than at Glastonbury! Do what we used to do in the old days, if you get seperated, then head for a pre-arranged spot. That of course is in the unlikely event that your phone doesn't work. Try it, it's quite liberating!

A long time ago I went solo one year - pushing all my belongings in a wheelbarrow from the car park. Stupidly I made a mental note that my car was parked next to a big red van but not the car park number and location in the car park.

When it was time to leave of course the big red van had left before me and my landmark was no more. I pushed my barrow around for about three hours trying to find my car.

I got lost after the Black Crowes in 95, I was confident I knew my way around. I had a load of kit with me, bag of clothes, Chilean poncho, sleeping bags, etc - lost my friends as I decided to go down to the front barrier for a wig out. I ended up losing everything in the crowd. We were camped up near the Sacred Space in Pennards. I strode home in the dark (there were no strings of lights then) confident of finding the tent, only to find myself at the Acoustic Stage - turned around and got as far as the some army net strewn rave tent near Avalon and Star Child, somewhere and didn't get back to the tent until an hour or two after dawn. To get a dressing down from a frantic girlfriend and my cousin.

Last year after *possibly* overdoing the vodka I spent five hours crawling around in muddy ditches which I think were by the side of the train tracks towards the naughty corner but at the time I had no idea where I was or how to find my way back to our camp. I vaguely recall pleading with a few stewards to help me because I was lost but didn't really get any kind of help. Finally found familiar groundd at 3am and staggered into my mates tent. Meanwhile several of our group were searching all the medical and welfare tents for me.

I wasn't popular the next morning!

when i said about my GPS it was not to look at all the time just for emergencys as my wife is a bit concerned about getting seperated, etc so they will stay in bum bag etc until they are needed we intended to wonder around aimlessly and get lost ! but as long as we can find our way back to van at the end on the night/morning they will not be used but thanks anyway bye.gif

A few years ago, a little worse for wear coming back from the dance tents (or was it Lost Vagueness)... decided to guide our way back via the triangular light on top of the Pyramid stage. I could see it clear as day, the tip of the pyramid guiding us back to the tent like the star of Bethlehem. Walked for ages through mud and crowds towards this light... finally to stand under it and realise it was a solitary bulb on a pole on top of a burger van.

lost a mate of mine in 2005, we were camped with another group we kind of knew. We were all sitting around and they all asked where he was. it was about 2am and as i felt responsible i was telling them all he was asleep in the tent. about 2 hours later, you can imagine everyones surprise when he turned up proper smashed. hed been looking for the tent the whole time joining in and drinking with other groups that he thought could have been us . i tell the truth now.
