Yeah, the sad thing is the Dance Village is the most soulless place in the entire site now, it should be the most vibrant area, it's now just a walkway to get from JP to Other stage with a few dance tents either side. It seems just a route to get from a to b nowadays. It seems it's now an afterthought for the organisers these day, it need to freshen up, have its own curator and probably position it nearer to the "naughty corner" it needs some sort of structure to it, it is too open and wide, it wouldn't be too difficult to make it something great. I'll do it if they want

I don't think it's soulless. I've been in East, Wow and Cubehenge, and there's always been a decent atmosphere.

there's probably plenty of legitimate reasons why this doesn't happen, but..

given that a lot of peoples favourite destination for a bit of a knees up is the naughty corner after hours as it has a lot of the best and most imaginative venues, why not make more use of it during the day?

i know many of those venues do have a day bill, but i have seen very good acts on there performing to about 6 people. it isn't really pushed as a place to visit during daytime.

and given the dance village is basically stuck in the 1990s (not everything was better then) with it's tents + dayglo inflatables schtick.

then why not combine the two a bit. there's some good acts on in DV in the day, but how much better would they be not in a tent but in London Underground, Dog Faced Geisha or Arcadia?

you could the maybe replace DV with bigger venues for the bigger acts (to me it's all or nothing in DV, either half full tents or so rammed you can't get in, neither is good) and have the smaller acts in better venues up in Shangri La etc.

as i said at the start, there's probs some valid reason why this doesn't happen, and if the DV isn't busy in it's current location during the day then it may be hard to make it work at the far end of the site, but you never know till you try.

edit, honourable exception to Cubehenge, which is at least trying something different, but you only really get the best of it late on for one act before the curfew close it down. it would be better up the other end i reckon.

Could do something really radical and controversial and swap the Dance Village with the Jazz World stage area, similar sized areas really, and having the DV around there would be a great lead into the naughty corner

as to cube henge - cube henge stays open till 3/4am i thought?! when the rest of the dance tents close?!

And re 1990s tents and UVs - i personally think dance music works well in tents

The reason for it being either rammed or a bit quiet could be because more and more people who go to Glasto aren't into dance music? ;/

I really really like the dance village..but most the people I went with in 2010 and 2011 couldnt care less..whereas in 2007..diff people..spent quite a bit of time there

just like the people I went with recently just walked through arcadia etc but didnt really care about any of the dance music stuff like the dubstep at london underground etc

Most of the things that irritate me about Glasto aren't bad compared to other fests, and are out of the organisers' controls. e.g. the litter and people urinating everywhere (beyond the green police and lots of bins+toilets there's not much they can do).

The one thing though is perhaps the Park Stage. Don't get me wrong, I love it. Great bands and a lovely atmosphere, but the 'special guests' are getting ridiculous and seem to overshadow the rest of the fest. I'm all for small surprise sets, but when the bands are 'headliner' sized, and it's pretty much known throughout who's playing there's none of the intimate, exciting feel you get from seeing a massive band in a small venue, instead it just feels like a Pyramid stage headline audience crammed into a tiny field. Plus for Pulp and Radiohead they shut the gates meaning presumably a bunch of people missed out. Similarly, if they intend to keep the trend (although can't imagine the hype for Park guests for next year) they should sort out the area/soundsystem etc; the hill seemed a lovely place to sit and watch Pulp until we realised how quiet the sound levels were...

All in all though, these are minor things and looking forward to 2013.

• Arrival. In 2009 it took almost 9 hours to arrive from London. In 2010, I spent Tuesday night in town but ended up waiting a few hours for a shuttle and then sitting in traffic on Wednesday morning, anyway.

• The nastiness of the long drops and portapotties (thank Xenu I had hospitality in 2010 and could use the toilet trailers)

• Shangri la, Arcadia, et al getting too crowded and being so far away. I love these areas so much, though.

• Not enough left-of-center/adventurous/experimental bookings.

• Inexplicably popular but woefully rubbish acts like La Roux and Mumford & Sons playing two or more years in a row.

• Dance Village is a bit pointless during the day time. I support the idea of moving it to the Jazzworld area and having it run later.

• Smartphones have effectively killed the special guest slots at the Park. Now anyone can just check nme in the morning and have the surprise spelled out for them, and I can't imagine they ever get someone as big as Pulp or Radiohead again due to overcrowding issues. In 2010, I had a throwaway dumbphone, and everyone I asked had a different idea for Friday's guest. One person said Thom Yorke, so I took a chance, and arrived before The Big Pink and walked up to the front row. Can't imagine it was that easy to be up front in 2011, was it?

• Having to walk all the way to the top of the festival site because none of the cash machines will accept foreign cards. How about a new provider?

• The crowds at whatever activities and performers are going on Thursday evening.

• The challenge of getting a ticket.

Moving the dance village to jazz..how would that solve anything though? - What time do they have to shutdown over there?

as it is I thougght the dance tents were 12 and cube henge till 3/4am?

as to it being pointless during day..it just doesnt feel right..to me anyway, i prefer dance music in a dark tent, impressive lights, lazers etc late at night - but same goes for Arcadia in a way?

I think something needs to be done with the dance village. If it was in a more enclosed area it might have more of an atmosphere.

I like the pussy parlure and cube henge, but they feel a bit out of place in the dance village.
