Last year at Reading Festival my feet got very saw and achy very quickly on the Friday and I believe this was due to wellies being uncomfortable.

Basically, I want to know is there any tips on how to make wellies more comfy, instead of spending a 40 pounds on a pair of hunter wellies.

socks, socks and more socks.

There's no other way. Ten quid wellies are as good as hunters (& wellies that are better than hunters) for comfort.

As Neil said, 2, maybe 3 layers of thick socks. No other solution.

Maybe some thicker insoles, but yeah a few pairs of thick socks works wonders.

Don't accidentally take two left wellies. I can tell you from experience that it isn't very pleasant.

Waterproof walking boots and gaiters might be an option if you dont like wellies!

One year I made myself some waterproof socks out of carrier bags and wore trainers I didn't mind ruining. Sort of worked, but I would stick with wellies lol.

Some rugby socks have thicker padding around the foot area, these are brilliant for my wellies & the extra sock length pulled up stops any rubbing if I'm wearing shorts.

Not sexy but does the trick for me.

Definitely wear LONG socks! Last year I had thick socks on with my Welles and it was lovely, but the tops started to rub against my leg and they rubbed so hard it literally tore away the hair and left me with two bald patches on my calfs. It was the most uncomfortable thing ever.

I go for two pairs of socks. One normal pair, then a long pair over the top which I fold over the tops of the wellies to stop chafing.

Normally a winner. Always make sure I put the short sock under the long one as then you can reuse it & just take lots of smaller socks that are easier to pack. Make sure you air your feet out though, I didn't change or take any item of clothing off in '11 except my jacket & ended up with trench foot from warm & moist feet.

I got a pair of £15.00 (Dunlop i think) wellies (combined with normal socks) this year and i had no problem at a treacherous Download with them but everyones feet are different i suppose.

Gel insoles - make the cheapest welly so much more comfy

Long socks you can turn over your welly tops - not pretty but stops the rucking and keeps your wellies from rubbing

Borrow an old pair that have been given a batterinf or Wear them in a bit - welly footie is good esp when a weeee bit drunky....

If it's seriously deep mud they don't cope though. If it squelches over to the inside you're screwed.

Theres nothing better than getting back to your tent at the end of the day, peeling off your wellies and socks and drying your feet out by the fire
