Dropping random question. Why can't just R/L announce all the headliners like just Download and Sonisphere?

They used to, but not until around March time. But then other fests started announcing headliners earlier so I guess they felt they had to start giving people something before Xmas to keep up.

Especially since they couldn't rely on an instant sell out last few years.

Isn't the prodigy too big to sub-headline under QOTSA/Paramore or Blink? But one can hope.

Well they won't be under QOTSA/Paramore, because they acts as the headliners and the subs. There'll be a normal 3rd down sized act there. I don't think they're too big to sub Blink, but doubt they'll headline Sonisphere and sub R&L anyway.

Was it really predictable? I haven't really been following soni as I don't follow metal.

I thought it was sabbath or pearl jam in the running? Bare in mind i've only lightly read up on the soni forums/posts.

I was hopeful but it makes sense. 2011 was the only other 3 day year and they had a smaller headliner in Biff. I guess prodigy kind of fit that this year, and they have a large crossover with rock/metal.

Looking good headliners wise, just to see who's announced undercard. Hopefully reading picks up the crap.

I think Sabbath said last night, or someone else said, they aren't doing it. Pearl Jam don't tend to do heavy festivals. Both would also have made their set of headliners unbelievably strong. Obviously both were still being considered/suggested by people (myself included) because they both seemed possible, but The Prodigy were touted as much as anyone else.

    • The Reds felt premierleage soft -  but also probably legitimate  rules wise-  think some of us including me might have to ajust our normal judgement on this a bit   Good luck to Christian Romero -
    • And....  the perfect act to sub headline pre  Bonobo.  -   Max Cooper on before for a fantastic double just those new Park screens wont know what hit them with Max Visuals -
    • I think people that used to be able to do a lot of gigs have had to be more picky and make a decision rather than going to most of what they’d have been able to previously. The prices are just crazy now and if you add in spending money, transport & a potential hotel, all of which has gotten more expensive unless it’s a local gig or smaller independent venue it becomes holiday money. Even if your local and it’s an arena gig it could be higher than a days pay for some.
