I don't know how much the 'once' thing comes into play, I'm not sure it's even possible to mean just one time as Sabbath, Metallica, RATM, Linkin Park, The Prodigy have all played (in their own contexts) with SOAD more than one time. Not even sure he said it, could do with someone who has the article copying it or scanning it or something.

Pick the odd one out from these:
  • Metallica; they supported Metallica years ago which could have been instrumental in the success of their band, would gladly play a one-off sub for them.
  • Black Sabbath; they played Ozzfest a few times early in their career which could have been instrumental in the success of their band, would gladly play a one-off sub for them.
  • Linkin Park; started a couple of years after SOAD with a commercialised brand of metal, they played a different day of a festival years ago, would gladly play a one-off sub for them.

Also, this thing on the Download boards literally never happened. It's just a group of posters discussing who could be the third headliner, like what we're doing. You're making people up again. I can't find this interview where they explicitly stated they'll be in the States until the end of August so I'm gonna assume that's made up too.

Also, I don't think it's Metallica before you say so, I'm just using that as an example.

Dude, look harder! Don't call me when you have no ground to backup I'm lying.

http://forums.downloadfestival.co.uk/m5559948-p5.aspx - This page and the one before it confirm I'm not bullshitting. Reliability of them you can't guarantee but I think they've been right before. Not everyone on boards who says they know stuff is wrong.

http://www.guitarworld.com/geezer-butler-black-sabbath-plan-tour-us-july-and-august - And there you go again. So it was Geezer and not Iommi but I did say, i think.

Ok, you were right about what Iommi said, although that's tours, I think it's possible they could play R+L as an exclusive anyway, but cheers and I apologise for insinuating you made it up.

Although I did look harder at the Download boards. The person I assume you're on about said:

When asked who it was...

No mention who it is. Go back a couple of pages, the same person responding to something mentioned earlier on about Linkin Park...

That's why I couldn't find the mention of Linkin Park being the info for the third headliner, because they were never even mentioned in relation to that info.

So this person 'in the know' in fact never said anything about them and they were the only act he/she ruled out!

Not this thread. On the link. I've explained. A guy who said he can't reveal source said he knew and it checks out. The guy who told him to stop being all high and mighty said just tell them. it's Linkin Park. May or may not be correct but at least one of them had delivered info the the Download board before and been correct and it's far from a suggestion that can be ruled out.

Looking at that Summer Sonic lineup it shows that Metallica and Linkin Park are both shows in the summer. It has some bands who are playing Leeds/Reading as well like FOB,Jake Bugg and rumoured Palma Violets. I would put money on it being on of the two. Also Klaxons are playing it, I can see them on the lineup this year!

While that's true. A header hasn't been shared since 2006. 6 years without a header, undercard has a lot. You had The Strokes in 11 but it was a co-head so guess it counts and Green Day but that was a secret set.

I don't think you can rule either totally out after that but I would say Linkin Park edge it even if for the no new album to present at R&L, and apparantly, typically they play R&L on promotion of new material.

    • Saw Ninajirachi last night as part of Harry Styles’ Meltdown Fest takeover at the Southbank. This was absolutely bonkers, great crowd and support - would love to see her given a good Woodsies spot next year, she’d smash it out the park.
    • I did get a little amusement at the idea that Infantino was upset Trump stood him up for the US opener last night given how hard he's been trying to get in his good books.   Tbf, I thought the Canadian roar at their equaliser was decent volume. Or maybe I just had my phone at a higher volume for it when I watched the highlights this morning.
    • Wonder if they’d ever headline Glasto again.  Would be very different a 2nd time around I reckon.
    • My mate is there now. She enjoyed them a lot but had never seen them before. Apparently there was an injury in the crowd near the end so took about 10 or so minutes to sort out. Hope the person is alright.    Feeder apparently drew a ridiculously huge crowd on the third stage.
    • This was never a surprise.   I'm hoping USA meet and lose to Iran in round of 16, just to really wind up Trump.
