That's what I don't get. I find it very very easy to ignore the NME. The bands they peddle are a bit harder to avoid, but the magazine/website isn't exactly shoved in everyone's faces constantly.

It's miles deep into Reading, Download, tours, news etc

I don't find Kerrang that intrusive either. Less avoidable than NME I guess but not by a huge amount. Articles tend to be fairly easy to avoid and ignore.

I can only assume that everyone here that rants about either of them reads them just so they have something to moan about

The metal I listen to tends to be too Nordic for Kerrang. They mostly peddle UK + US acts don't they?

I don't mind the NME to be honest. Some of the journalism is ludicrous, and in this weeks issue alone there are a couple of fuck ups on statistics. However, some articles are actually very very good, the Hip Hop anniversary one a couple of weeks back wasn't bad, and there was a huge article on Norway's black metal scene recently which I enjoyed. I must admit I only found FIDLAR and Drenge through the magazine.

yeah but sometimes they review albums of bands like Amon Amarth, and then they give them like 3 K's and I'm like "what the fuck?"

That's just weird to me. I get into bands through arguing about music endlessly with mates + strangers on internet forums until a recommendation comes up in conversation. That and checking out support bands/random festival acts.

'Customers who bought this item also bought...' On amazon is sometimes a good way to find new bands to look in to..

I occasionally buy nme if going on holiday but that's about it, its inoffensive and I can ignore reviews if I want and make my own judgement. I would say there is very little difference to how kerrang operate, its just a different genre and aimed a bit younger. You get the sense both decide album reviews before listening to them.

The problem with NMEs radar bit now, is that I end up already having heard of a lot of the bands through last fm or this forum. Their magazine isn't that bad really, but the online journalism is a lot more shoddy, I guess it doesn't get proof checked or anything either, cause there's always a shit load of errors.
