A bit off topic but had me thinking. I have just bought a ticket to Bilbao BBK due to the price of the tickets plus weather of festivals in this country (thinking of download and leeds 2011). Would this put any of you lot off going to a festival next year?

I'm pretty certain SOAD won't sub. I could see Soundgarden subbing, or Mumford if they don't headline.

This might not necessarily allude to the headliners. It could be a band who once headlined, who have moved down.

Maybe The Prodigy, Pixies, The Darkness, Franz Ferdinand, Stereophonics, Primal Scream, Manic Street Preachers, The Charlatans and Garbage could all be taken into consideration.

Soundgarden would not headline R&L main stage in anyway, shape or form. I'm very confident of that.

Agreed. But I think they're a decent shout for subbing the main stage, or headlining the tent on the 'indie' day

His got it into his head that an almost sold out arena tour rules them out completely.... I see where his coming from on that angle, but I'd say it's around 50/50. (If you think about festivals next year for the biff, they are really only to go Glasto (but was third in 2011...), TiTP and Reading/Leeds, so despite the arena tour a good chance to be steeping up headliner. (English Fest exclusive for Reading/Leeds and do TiTP).

Of course they could always just sub, but I think Festivals need a new "rock" band to headline.

Do you actually need it? SOAD have no uk dates what so ever so would be a uk exclusive - right up R&L street. Biffy Clyro have about 11 arena dates including 7 in england, yet to all completely sell out, 4 months before a festival that will have day tickets to see them at £85+ at two sites after people could get them for £34 to see them 4 months earlier.

Whereas if they sub, people have a £30 + band which did an arena tour, quite a cheap arena tour compared to some these days and a more expensive header on top.

IMO, if R&L were to get a band doing that many dates earlier in the year to headline a day, it needs to be someone who would charge a fair amount, say £50 for an arena date, hadn't played for a long time and were in demand so tickets would be picked up instant but also had the appeal to sell further ticket later with a days lineup.

Two people on this forum seem to have described Alt-J as a "Paolo Nutini rip-off." Now, I'm not a fan of either, by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm baffled as to what makes these two similar.

The year they did that in 2011 tooka big vote as the worst overall lineup in years, some said ever, I agree it was pish.

Really starting to hope a SOAD and Sabbath headlined Reading. With a more mainstream act a the third. Even Mumford who I can't really stand at all. This would be a bold move by Melvin but a popular one. Heavier acts always get a better response and less complaints. Obviously we would need some of the less heavier acts as well but in general a heavier lineup is needed specially with what looks to be the absence of Sonisphere.

I agree a heavier lineup would be much better, although I can see why they want to move towards a more modern lineup with alternative rock music appearing to die out
