Would love if Slipknot got announced. Just saying as I'm watching back their Soni performance which blew me away. Wouldn't look too weird on the line up next to TDCC, FF & New Order!

Latitude? With its comedy, film, cabaret, literature, theatre, etc. ?

I've not been to latitude, so I only have the comments of others to go on about that - but those comments pretty much pan out as it falling around as short as other festivals.

Also, that implies there's something inferior about bands in a field, I LIKE bands in a field, it's why I go to festivals. The extras are just things to check out and nose at when there aren't bands I want to watch. If there's too much to do, I can feel like I'm missing out on what I don't do. Hell, I felt like that at Bestival last year, let alone my experience at Latitude.

There's nowt particularly wrong about bands in fields. But the difference is, I guess, that it's just about seeing some stuff, whereas Glastonbury is a full-on experience.

As i say, you'll get it if you do it.

I just don't see what would make Glastonbury so phenomenally more special than anything else.

It's a when rather than an if. I decided about 3 years back that I'd do Glasto after the general festival fad has died down.

to be honest, controversial opinion here, but I've been to 4 glastonburys (07,08,09,11) and had a better time at Bestival last year than all of them.

I've been to a fair range of festivals, Bestival and Glastonbury included as well as a few other in the UK and abroad.

Whilst I accept the 'Glasto-love' can piss people off, I think it is worse coming from the people who have never been, are defensive about 'their festivals', and make silly assumptions about Glastonbury.

It is without doubt a different festival to all the others. At its best it cannot be challenged - both for the band experiences (huge bands on small stages, individual band members popping up on bandstands for impromptu sets), the nightlife, the vibe and the non-music attractions.

That said, I enjoyed Bestival last year more than Glastonbury. It was just less... stressful. I thought the music stunk up the place (hated the Cure and Bjork sets) alhtough there were some highlights (Metronomy, Brian Wilson, Primal S). Despite all that, it was just easier to get around, easier to find a place to sleep, easier to make your way back to teh tent, easier to find people etc etc.

Really looking forward to this year but must admit that, despite sometimes enjoying other fests more, I am really counting down to June 2013.

As you say, Glasto is king, but that doesn't exclude other fests from being more enjoyable for whatever reasons.

Glasto needs to be experienced to get that. There's no real way of explaining why it's streets ahead.

I get what some people are saying, I've been going to fests since 98 when I was 16 but didn't go to my my first Glastonbury till 2010. I always felt that people who went to Glasto looked down on you for daring to think other fests were as good as Glasto is but as soon as I took the plunge I realised what they were really on about and I only wish I'd went sooner. Glastonbury is more than a music festival, If you do it right, it's an experience that can change your whole outlook on life.

Words can't even beging to describe the things you see and hear at Glasto wether it be whilst sitting chilling in the Greenfields or raving it up at 6am in Shangri La it just can't be compared to anything else. I feel like other fests it just all feels like they try too hard whereas at Glastonbury everything just feels more organic and natural and indeed effortless (even if it's obviously took alot of effort). I think people worry about the size of the place but you can just go at your own pace, I never saw everything in the first year I went and I still haven't. i like to take it easy, If I miss a band because I've found a cool bar and I want a pint then it doesn't worry me. you won't see every band you want to but you may have a better time going between stages than you would have watching the band anyway.

Glastonbury isn't perfect, it's not the utopia that some may make it out to be but it's a life experience that i think anyone interested in festivals should do at least once in thier life and i'd be very surprised if visited once then you will be itching to go back.

ANYWAY, much as I'd love to throw my oar in on this conversation, I've never been to Glastonbury so I'm not able to comment.

So back on topic: I hope Florence + the Machine are announced this Friday, then that'll put an end to the speculation about them headlining.
