There does indeed seem to be more festivals than you can shake a shitty stick at. If some of the bigger festivals go to the wall it'll be more like winning the lottery trying to get a Glasto ticket ( as if it isn't already) as they will be in even more demand I would have thought - he says sighing.

I think the demand for Glasto will eventually fall as well. I think the era of instant sellouts is near an end. Glasto will probably be able to keep that longer, but I think festivals as a general habit for everyone will stop. Hopefully it'll lead to better lineups again (on mainstages anyway, before anyone has a go).

I'd have thought as consolidation starts to happen then initially Glasto will experience an increase in ticket demand. After that who knows. A part of me says, without reason, that it'll go on because it's always survived. However I saw people there last year who (and I only think this, he says rather prejudicially) I think could have been at any festival ie they weren't really getting it. In terms of line ups I can only say that I have never had to look at Clashfinder with intent to organise my performer line ups. That's because I don't go there for the music really, although I enjoy listening to some while I'm there. I'm sure there's plenty of others who fall into the same category as well. I know one of my mates who goes as well also couldn't care less who is playing. I think people forget that it's an arts festival and not just a music festival.

Yes, we say it over and over again on this forum that Glasto isn't just about the music but maybe that's something organisers of other festivals need to take on board. The festival experience has got to be more than watching a few bands and experiencing the corporate rip off of not being allowed to take your own food and drink into the area so you have to drink the sponsors products.

I agree. Particularly with Bestival having hefty travel costs.

European ones are ridiculously good value comparatively. I'm sure I read in an article recently that the same bands accept nearly half the fee on the continent.

I agree, went to ATP I'll be your mirror this year just for a day and it was brilliant to be around people who actually appreciated the same music as me on the same level and didn't just disreguard everything as weird like most of my friends do.

I really hope it doesn't go.

cant believe the paul simon gig hasnt sold out.

I'm not going mind because the sound at these hyde park gigs tends to be dire. Perhaps others have had similar thoughts.

I'd much rather see simon with garfunkel anyway. I actually think graceland is a bit overrated.

Don't think Paul Simon did himself any great favours at Glasto. Admittedly it was cold and raining but we gave up in the end and went back up to our trailer tent to dry out and have a mug of cocoa.

    • Not my experience. I've always got the size I paid for.
    • Kind of crackers how fast this summer seems to be sailing by. But aye, must be some news soon!
    • I am very possibly wrong about this but I do think that the pitch you get allocated appears to be related to your time of arrival, (i.e. you get the next one available) rather than the price you paid for a small, medium or large pitch.  They all appear to be the same size to me.
