cheeseisamazing
Hey just wondering if the cure could be a potential headliner? I don't see it but as they played bestival last year it just got me thinking (by the way was they're any particular reason for them playing?) does anyone think they also might play somewhere else? thesecretingredientiscrime
No to both. The audience isn't there to play R&L, and I don't think they'll play anywhere again for a while.
Bisque
No.
mrtourette
No to headlining.
jonnyx
Yes please! Lets not have the same old shit repeated again.
Bisque
Would be a great booking. But just no. I don't think it's R+Ls direction any more. I think the headliners will be aimed at a younger market.
blue6field
I absolutely love the cure, but don't see them as a r@l headliner, totally the wrong crowd! They play huge long sets and unless your a die hard they would be boring waiting for their couple of well known hits. Arcade fire are much more current and by all accounts even they didn't pull a huge crowd
Joe-
Their bestival set was very special. The Reading crowd wouldn't think so much.
blue6field
Saw it on tv and downloaded the album, totally agree it was fantasic! Not a r&l band at all, (still my favourite)!!
PurpleFire
No to headline! Would like to see them at R&L
beau1
They wouldn't play Reading and Leeds, if they did they should headline but wouldn't and therefore wouldn't play anyways as they always headline. I don't really see a UK Festival for them this year, I guess something like T is an outside shot and then the smaller ones. They are currently rumoured to be playing Bilbao BBK and Rockwave and Ultra Music Festival (Miami) in 2012. Probably quite likely to play Roskilide and Paleo too as they usually do during festival tours. Edited December 21, 2011 by beau1
jonnyx
The chances have to have gone up, given these other festival appearances. It's gonna happen!
jonnyx
Even more chance..... Cure At the Drive-In Make this happen
mrtourette
Why have the chances gone up? They said they're headlining festivals, they wouldn't headline R&L.
Frankly Mr Shankly
I could see Melvin being interested purely for the fact that they will only play one UK festival (if any) so that's his exclusivity that he loves so much sorted. Also they are a massive British band, all they'd have to do is bang someone like Noel Gallagher on the NME and they'd be sorted.
mrtourette
Well they're rumoured for Latitude (which they'd certainly headline), there's no way FR would have the same band headline Latitude and R&L. A Latitide headliner does sometimes pop up in a decent slot at R&L so it depends whether they'd accept a tent headlining slot.
Frankly Mr Shankly
Nah, I'm pretty sure the Cure only headline the main stage where ever they play. But tbh I'd rather see them at Latitude than R/L. Edited January 16, 2012 by Frankly Mr Shankly

jonnyx
The National played both festivals last year. But if the Cure are cheap, they could play second or NME. I'd think they deserve to headline Reading. Didn't they play in 1979 or something.
mrtourette
A number of bands play both festivals (Arcade Fire also headlined Latitude and played R&L in the same year), the clincher is whether they'd play anything other than a headline slot because they wouldn't get offered that at R&L. Frankly Mr Shankly
I'm sorry but you can't say for sure if the Cure would or wouldn't get offered a headline slot at R/L. They're certainly bigger than more than a few of the headliners they've had in recent years & until they're confirmed for Latitude (or another UK fest), I wouldn't rule them out 100%. Edit: Oh & there's no way they'd headline NME or sub. Edited January 16, 2012 by Frankly Mr Shankly
mrtourette
Yeah of course I can't say for sure, nobody can (or can say for sure that they would), it's just my opinion.
jonnyx
Well if the choice was up to me!. I'd give them the headline slot.
Frankly Mr Shankly
As much as I want to see them headline R/L, I'd rather watch them with a truly appreciative crowd, so Hop Farm or Latitude would be better in my opinion. I just have a strange feeling Melvin may have been after them for R/L, but we'll see I guess.
