That court case last week that the pub landlady won - which confirmed the right for any pub to show a Prem game that is broadcast by any EU broadcaster, but which also said that the Prem's logo was copyrghted and that copyright logo couldn't be used without permission - ended up shutting down the non-Sky broadcasts that just about every pub now seems to do.

The re-broadcaster that the pubs used (based in Latvia or somewhere, and which charges less than half the price of sky while getting more games than Sky - offers its customers a 100% guarantee that if they end up in court that broadcaster will legally represent them.

Because sky had told them that they'd be checking pubs this weekend for the logo copyright violation they wouldn't take the risk of broadcasting so shut it down.

But that company is in court this week to challenge that logo ruling, and the word they're putting out is that they expect to win it and be broadcasting again by the weekend.

I guess we'll have to see how that pans out, but I reckon they've a very decent chance of winning. After all, the likes of Nova (a greek satellite broadcaster) has the right to use that logo, and EU rules mean that there should be no cross-border blocks on them being able to sell their broadcasts all around the EU no matter what Nova's licence agreement with the Prem says.

Just out of interest, how much per month does it cost you for decoder cards to get the non-British channels which show the footy?

But having thought long and hard about it, I won't get a satellite system for myself. I'd end up watching too much rubbish just cos it was there, and I like the excuse of football to get to the pub and down a few pints.

£400+ ?...try something like £200 for all the equipment, i don't actually buy the cards, i "share" someone else's for around £7 a month, that's every foreign channel and sky

I'm not entirely sure why they'd be paying that if they could get everything as you're doing for £7pm - but I'd guess that they're fully within all the relevant laws, while I guess that your shared card isn't.

My observations from the weekend. Average performance but the result is all that counts for liverpool. I never expected cardiff to be so close, but thought liverpool were a bit nervy. I have heard a few people on the radio/internet mocking liverpool for the perfromance, however I think in this incident it was all about getting the win.

We were pretty shite. But we won.

Yesterday proved to me why I'd rather win a trophy than come fourth. Of course the two are interlinked as being in the CL allows you to attract the players to win things etc. But that's not my point.

Call it the Mickey Mouse cup or whatever. I'm made up. Was 15 the last time Gerrard lifted something shiny and silver above his head.

I think there's a psychology aspect to it though. Arsenal haven't won anything for a few years, and that's being touted as a reason why they've slipped down, a lack of experience in winning and a loss of that mentality to drag you through. I think it can be a powerful first step, and while players are attracted by the possibility of playing in Europe, I imagine many would rather have an FA cup winners medal than a record of regularly losing Champs Lge and FA cup semi-finals.

I would agree in terms of liverpool, where most (suarez possibly excluded) are unlikely to be looking for the next move as they are either too old (Gerrard/carragher) or playing as high up as they ever will (Adam/downing). At Arsenal there are probably several people with eyes on the next move, so playing in the champions league allows them to showcase their talent, more than a league cup winner medal ever will.

If the majority of Arsenal's players think there's a big move in it for them, they're a bit deluded. RVP, maybe Vermaelen, Wilshere. The rest aren't going anywhere big too quickly.

I agree. Ramsey possibly? I think Arsenal, remarkably, are really short of players in their mid 20s. They've got teens/early 20s players (Wilshere, Ramsey, Ox, Coquelin), and players in their 30s (Arteta, Rosicky, Arshavin). The really young players will be more confident of getting games at Arsenal and rather stay, and the older ones are unlikely to get a big move. I can't see anyone except RVP moving anytime soon.

I think that's probably cos it was a rushed deal. They've been after him for ages, and initially Wenger wouldn't let him go.

I guess something changed Wenger's mind, and there wasn't time to do a permanent deal.

I'd argue that Song, Koscielny and Sanga could all move on to other clubs currently playing at a igher level, although I hope none of them do.
