I think it's an awful signing. Arsenal got shot at the very best time. Was mediocre at Barcelona and has been playing pub football for how long...

Be interesting to judge in a months time

he's long past his best, granted. But no one is thinking he's the player he was.

I reckon he'll do more than OK - around a 15 goals a season player if he was to play for a season.

The only down side to it that I can see is that he might take some of the shine off his god-like status.

I don't think Wenger rates either through the middle, otherwise he'd have started them there before now to give RVP a rest. Although I'd love a real top quality forward to come in, all most of us fans want is a 10 goal a season man to come in to give an alternative to RVP. Chamakh and Park do not a goal threat make. I have a feeling the difference between finishing 4th and 5th this season will come down to a couple of points at most, and if RVP is injured for any length of time we'll drop points as it stands.

the bit I've bolded and other aspects of him knowing Arsenal so well are what makes it a decent signing to me, rather than the desperation that some are saying.

As Steve has said it's far from ideal in many ways, but if Wenger's not going to open the chequebook then this is surely far better than nothing.

And credit to Nal for saying the invincibles were the best Prem team ever. I don't suppose there's a huge number of Utd fans who'd happily admit that.

So are Liverpool and Daglish going to be charged next by the FA?

Edit - Not trying to reopen the debate re: Suarez. Only thing Ive really commented on, guilty or not guilty, is Liverpools dealing of the whole thing. Or mishandling of the whole thing in my book.

yep, it has been dreadful, and I'm sure even they will look back on it and regret it.

But I guess from Liverpool's point of view it's been an outrage all the way thru: the original accusation that was made of Suarez (of saying 'nigger') is now considered by no one to be the truth, and the process has been handled in a way that no British criminal court would find acceptable.

So from that point of view they're right to be outraged.

But that doesn't excuse some of what they've done. Things could have been calmed from the very start with a line from Suarez that said something like "I don't believe I've used racist language but if I've ever said something that's been taken that way then I can only apologise for the offence caused".

But this is all new ground for clubs to deal with, and is about as difficult as it gets when trying to defend someone while having to pay regard to the strong feelings around the bigger issue. Some Chelsea players asked to wear Terry t-shirts, apparently, after seeing Liverpool do it - so while that looks very crass from the outside things are obviously quite different on the inside which then leads to the sorts of things which have come out of Liverpool.

PS: I think fergie's missed a trick to look graceful today too, and managed to switch things the other way instead. So it's not only Liverpool who are letting their feelings get the better of them over what would be most sensible.

Lots of rumours on Twitter about Rooney leaving Man U/handing in a transfer request. Seemingly the Independent are running a story tomorrow.

Apparently a statement is due from Man U tonight about Rooney's future but the BBC's Dan Roan has said on Twitter that the statement will say that Rooney is not for sale.

BBC: 2157: Some news from tomorrow's newspapers to bring you here, as the Independent reckon that Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to let Wayne Rooney leave Manchester United due to a breakdown in their relationship. That would be massive.

Twitter:

-Seems a Liverpool fan/fans have racially abuse a black Oldham player. He was very upset.

-One of Oldham's black players is in tears after hearing abuse (racist) from the kop.

-Liverpool fans shouting racial slurs at a black oldham athletic player. It halted the game. The player was visibly upset and was in tears

    • So we've signed a Horny Czech, and Bruno's turned up the training camp instead of doing Isak's nonsense.   Still not sure I believe Bruno's staying mind, but glad he's not doing the sh*t Arsenal are asking him to do to lower the price. If they want him they can stump up.   My suspicion is that whichever of Madrid/Man City don't start next season with Rodri will go for Bruno, and one of them will come in while Arsenal have f**ked about trying to get him cheap, which while I absolutely want to keep him, would still be good enough bants and a nice middle finger that I wouldn't mind it so much. I just wish we'd report Arsenal for tapping up.   If rumours are to be believed, we're after 2 more defensive signings, and an attacking player, on top of a replacement if Bruno leaves, having already signed a LW, 2 CMs, a GK, and some youth players. Huge churn, but apart from a couple of Bazou Toure's games for Ivory Coast at the world cup, I've not seen any of them play. Over 2 summers we've basically changed our entire team aside from the CBs.
    • I think the level of headliners Bloodstock get is varied    There's been bands who have gone on to play Download in quite a low spot like Meshuggah, Behemoth, Opeth etc.    Then they've had years like 2025 where you can argue that all three headliners are download main stage sub level    Knocked Loose right now i'd argue are 3rd down on main/opus headliner level while EC and FFDP are borderline main stage sub
