In terms of experience on the training pitch and the dressing room they are massive losses yeah.

Teams don't just turn up 10 minutes before kick off once a week on a Saturday. Players like Hernandez can learn from Owen. Players like Smalling and Rafael/Fabio can learn from Neville during the week. A lot of the training drills would've been set up that way. Its that way at every club.

Rooney's 3rd match suspended because 'missing tournament games is a bigger sanction than missing qualifiers'

FFS. While it's good news for England, the authorities ought to be consistent. The FA have also opened the door to teams appealling a ban that includes a Cup Final/Semi-Final. Ridiculous.

True, the very fringe players like ravel Morrison, Pogba etc. But the concern I have is players like Smalling, Jones, De Gea, Hernandez, Rafael, Fabio etc who Ferguson would’ve wanted as experienced first teamers by August. Theres a huge difference between playing against Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Ronaldo, Higuain, Nesta etc and playing away in Cyprus on a bumpy pitch against a load of apprentice butchers.

I think arshavin got a 2 match ban in similar circumstances. I think i could go either way whether a 2 or 3 match ban is fair. One thing that worries me is that I dont want punishments being inconsistent depending on whether the countires can afford the top lawyers, also I disagree that rooney is geting credit for not moaning when he went off, that should be expected not a reason for a ban reduction.

I have to admit i have refused to embrace the world of twitter, but whoever makes the decision to publish this type of information and spread it around is being disrespectful in my opinion, he hasnt even been buried yet and the gossipmongers are out. I have no interest why he decided to kill himself and dont think its my business. I however will go to pay my respects at the memorial event when it is announced. If everyone who wants to spread rumours about speed used their energy to donate to the bobby robson and john hartson foundations like me, some good could come from a tragic event.

Suspicion around Lyon getting through over Ajax:

http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/champions_league/101205/french-gambling-authority-to-probe-lyons-7-1-champions-league-win-against-zagreb.html

I didn't realise at the time how remarkable it was Lyon got through, and that Ajax had 2 goals disallowed. Losing to Real seemed normal, and Lyon-Zagreb just sounded like a team on song, but a 7-goal difference getting overturned with disallowed goals and a wink..... Dodgy.

It would take a pretty powerful betting ring to have brought that about. Possible I guess, but coincidence is far more likely, especially as there's been no dodgy betting patterns detected around it.

    • It would be piss-easy for a bot to manage, though.
    • I've heard that ticket sales for other events that use the same system have included the question 'are you still there?' on each window/browser you have with a place in the queue. If you don't confirm you are, it'll assume you're not and that place will drop.   I've no idea if Glasto/See will adopt this, but it would be challenging to keep on top of with many windows open.
    • People who're struggling are already priced out, so I don't think a bump in price will affect who attends. There'll still be a cross section, leaning young. I also think they'll do a soft breaking of the £400 ceiling, keeping the ticket price just below but having postage take it over. Next year the ticket itself will be over that threshold.

    • Not sure if this has been mentioned but new La Roux album out November - was meant to play in 2020 but hasn't found her way back onto a lineup. If any excuse just to hear this absolute banger on the fields next year!
