it's all done with a healthy sense of irony though, and lots of humour
once it's mildly amusing.

By the 4th time you get to realise that it's all they have going for them - telling suckers how great they are when they're as bog standard as it's possible to be.

only one headliner being booked explains why I've not been able to find out who the third one is.

I'm now just about convinced that Fleetwood Mac are nowhere top of the list to be that headliner (perhaps due to their fee demands, I dunno).

As a result of lots of stuff that's come my way in recent weeks I'm of the belief that Glastonbury are yet to fill that 3rd slot.

Worthy HQ really have been sitting on their hands this past 18 months. Parenting is lonely old deserted island, Emily. I sympathise.

That or the whole festival dynamic is shifting with insecurities, both financial and otherwise, rife in the industry.

Am I right in saying the majority of us think the one firm headliner booked is the Arctic Monkeys?

Michael is probably clinging to the hope The Stones agree, but as Neil has hinted that may be a fading hope so the rest is up in the air. Radiohead are the logical go to band but it will be interesting to see how this all pans out

I believe that the booked one is the Arctics.

With a variety of other bits of info now in my hands - including what is said in that Guardian article - I'm now far more in the direction of the stones still being in the running, but they haven't said either way yet.

I don't believe that there's anyone currently lined up for the 3rd slot, unless that's been agreed fairly recently.

I could tell you some of who they've talked to about headlining in recent weeks, but then I'd have to kill you. Suffice to say that I know Glasto has been knocked back by some.

Russy has said on another thread the key issue here is the Stones are messing the folks at Worthy Towers around. Not unexpectedly I'm sure. But as the weeks tick by people will start to get jitters. Thats when mistakes happen.

I dont quite understand that, surely that would be a 5 minute phone converstaion up front

Jagger - "we would need £2 million to play please, Mikey"

Eavis - "I am sorry we will only pay you £250,000"

JAgge - "OK never mind. I'll go and see if the O2 is free..."

I would assume that would have been clear right at the start of negotiations. If those negotiations are still going on then it might suggest they are not too far apart in what they want and want Eavis is willing to pay - I had always assumed it was the number of noughts in the figure which was the problem, 2 followed by 5 0s compared with 2 with 6 0s!

Not if both sides are playing chicken. One side wants the most for their money, the other wants the most money, they are both getting it out, waving it around, screaming "I've got the biggest", and as we edge closer to the time for a final decision, we will see who really does.

Personally, I've got no problem with GFL doing it. If they're going to get the Stones, I would rather it was for a sum that doesn't put the festival in danger, especially in the current climate

might as well push the thread to 6000 today

if i was a famous musician i would prefer to play non-profit festivals like glastonbury. doesn't mick jagger understand that the rich are outnumbered? all it would take to put him in the poor house is a freeze on all his bank accounts and a mob of angry people to loot his mansions.
