but come on, to come from witnessing close up the abilities of Cobain, to (presumably) take from that experience, and then start Foo Fighters?

i'm not suggesting they are comparable as songwriters, but Grohl didn't even try to do much beyond bog standard meat and potatoes rock for the kind of crowd Cobain wrote songs to ridicule.

It is what is is. He is who he is. Grohl makes his music, it may not be as inventive or edgy as the music that Cobain wrote but then again Grohl is not and never has been as dangerous or edgy a person as Cobain.

Happy and well-adjusted people rarely make the 'best' (as in dangerous, exciting or creative) artists. If he is naturally that kind of person, the same person that he was before he met Cobain, then doing what he does is still probably better than faking it and doing it another way. He was in bands and writing music long before and long after Nirvana, that relatively short period hasn't exactly been his only period of reference or influence.

Fair enough that you think they aren't/he isn't a patch on Nirvana/Kurt (which I'm guessing was the original point) but to suggest that for whatever reason behind the difference that he disliked Cobain or blaming him for not taking enough inspiration from Cobain is unfair.

you have read things into my post there that i certainly didn't intend, so i can only offer my apologies for my lack of clarity.

to be explicit, i was definitely, 100% not commenting on who may or may not be the 'lesser being'. my point was purely about the quality of the respective musical outputs of Nirvana and Foo Fighters.

having not met either Grohl or Cobain i would not like to presume to be in a place where i could comment on whom was the 'lesser being'.

I do think the adoration of everything Kurt Cobain has gone a little over the top though.

I remember having a conversation with some one on the topic, when the Foo's were just starting to get popular (after the second album), and he was saying, "yea, but, it's not quite Nirvana is it?", and I said I'm not bothered really, the main thing with me is how often you feel like listening to someone's music. I got very bored with most of Nirvana's stuff pretty quick, but I played The Colour And The Shape loads more than I ever played Nirvana

I doubt SOAD will ever play Glasto now, regardless of the types of band they have. They've reformed for nice big paychecks which they won't get headlining Glasto's other stage. Simples.

Just to add to the Foos and Nirvana conversation, I HAVE met Grohl (not Kurt, though) and he was unashamedly the nicest, friendliest and most approachable famous person I've ever met. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop almost everything the Foos have ever produced from being bland, boring rock-by-numbers. As I have said many times, he should stick to drumming (which he's excellent at) and leave singing, guitars and songwriting to others.

Who wants Animal to split from Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem and start singing his own songs? Thought not.

VA have secured a few high profile flights for non-US acts that are playing Coachella. We hear about VIPs two hours before flights but nowhere this far in advance & usually rosters are out only a month in advance, unless its a large group of passengers travelling together (christ even Ellie goulding & her band). I've heard this from a friend/colleague who does a lot of LA trips (long flight but two night stay) & have no idea how much strength this has but I doubt he would mention it unless it was an act/s I wouldn't recognise as most crew love LMFAO. Then again he might be on contract to not say who's flying like when we have royals on board. I'll try & get it out of him on Whatsapp as I know the Sheraton in Pasadena is rubbish at charging for wi-fi.

so with all this talk of the arctic monkeys headlining again surely kasabian must get a nod soon. Imo they are bigger and better than the monkeys but have never headlined!! Their arena tours all sell out within minutes of going on sale, theyve headlined all the other major festivals and dont seem to be on any of the other festivals lineups next year. Im praying they at least play but feel they deserve a headline slot.

Arctics have been big enough to headline since 2007, Kasabian have been slowly creeping up lineups until now, when imo, they're only just big enough to headline. and it's been said here before but they've done every other festival on this tour, and Glastonbury doesn't take other festivals seconds - it's always first, so i'm guessing that, if they do headline, it'll be after they release their next album, or possibly even the album after that (imo, they're not a massive festival draw as they are constantly at every festival, so they'd be a bit of a weak headliner)

Arctics have become less popular since 2007, at their own forums (fanboys) some of the posters in AM 2013 tour thread questioned if they still were big enough to headline the pyramid.
