Using someone else's ticket

Here is the thread by the way ... all ten pages! Some high emotions, but some interesting comments about the ways some people used to get in, and how some people were caught out.

Might be worth a read by punters thinking of buying / getting someone elses ticket.

I reckon it comes down to

- Are they similar looking? (could saying grown hair longer/ cut shorter etc)

- Is your friend confident and quick thinking enough to blag any questions that they might be asked?

- Are they willing to travel all that way only to be turned away.

If they answer no to any of the above then it's not worth it.

As I said last time I was checked carefully, but others have said they weren't so its really pot luck!

Yeah I see what you mean. I think what I was trying to say is that you can definitely reduce the risk by hanging around for a couple of minutes and you will probably be able to spot the person who's most likely to feel too intimidated to turn you away.

Could always take the persons ID, I'm sure they wouldn't turn you away if you look similar to the ticket and a driving license fo example...

But as said a lot of volunteers are going to be laid back, not really bothered about it, and generally probably not care, i'm sure a lot will figure 'well they've paid for a ticket, tickets been paid for whats the harm'

It's not like a fake ticket or two people going in on the same ticket

trouble is they've also got supervisors watching them/secret shoppers etc etc - dont know what the consequences are for volunteers who get caught letting people in on others tickets - losing their own perhaps? I'd feel pretty shitty if not only I got turned away but someone else lost their ticket because of what I'd done, besides which couldn't even contemplate travelling there knowing I could be turned away

what type of f**king jobsworth c**t would turn someone away for this? as far as i am aware it is literally no skin off their nose whatsoever. it's not like they're going to get in to trouble, just let them loose through the gate and you'll never see them again. preventing someone at the peak of human excitement from getting through would be deplorable shit man.

shocked to hear that it happens. my mate got through on someone else's ticket last year and he looked absolutely nothing like him. he's doing the same this year. pretty sure most people will be fine but hearing there are a few who aren't is disappointing.

Last year my mate got in no probs using another mates ticket. The only likeness between them was they both had skinheads. The only thing I will say i you have to show your ticket everytime you leave site so make sure you take everything in with you first time.

I have been every year that the pictures have been on the tickets and not once have I been asked for ID. Just go the a line where they are really busy and look a little flustered. They wont even check.

On a different tack this got me wondering why they bother. I mean yes, officially you come out and say you can't do it and all that. Unofficially, what's the problem ? The whole photo stuff was introduced to stop touts and that seems to have worked very well. If a small number do this because they are desperate then where is the harm exactly in letting them in ? The ticket has been paid for, they have the money, there will still be the same number of people on site as if the original ticket holder used it. I just don't see why they would actually bother turning anyone away. In fact whomever enforces their workers to do this seems to me is a w*nker.

Edit: I have never been checked or really had my photo properly checked, a cursory glance is the most I have received since they introduced the photo system.

All of our party were asked to remove sunglasses/hats last year.. which has never happened before.. it wasn't that they had more time to check up, cos the gate we were at was rammed, too.. it seemed security was loads more strict last year, so personally, I wouldn't risk it..

I've been with people getting in on tickets before. And last year for the RATM Finsbury gig, which had a similar ticketing policy, one of my mates used another friends ticket. Don't really look remotely alike, we just spotted the more laid back looking steward.

they were so strict last year I think because of what happened in 2009- with the pass outs. when you went out, you got a passout ticket and another wristband.... so people were basically going out with a few extra wristbands, handing them and the passout ticket to someone else, that person came back in with the passout wearing two wristbands, and the original person came back in with their ticket and two wristbands, pleading that they lost their passout...... saw loads of people doing this. last year, knew someone who tried it again and they were told there is no way you are getting back in without your ticket, passout and wristband,

it's not something I'd do personally, have always paid for my ticket, always will.... I 'need' to know I'm definitely going to be there IYKWIM, but I reckon security got a right rollicking and thats why they were so hot on it, tugging on wristbands etc.... at the end of the day, if they don't clamp down, it'll just mean the end of the festival.

so I guess what I'm trying to say is that I thunk security will be as tough as, if not more so, year on year. it's a big risk to take..... I know I couldnt do it

Take some other ID just in case, insist that you are that person.

Honestly, are there any stories about people with genuine tickets not actually getting in? Because out of 150,000 people, there are bound to a few that look nothing like their photo any more. Yet you don't see anyone on here complaining that they weren't let in. I haven't heard of a single false-positive basically, which suggests to me security is fairly lax.

From working the gate at Phoenix, I do rememeber that it is tedious as hell no matter how much you try to make the time go by by being bright, friendly, and welcoming, and complimenting people on their hair!

I can remember just getting into a hypnotic rhythm of tugging peoples wristbands so that when someone didn't have one, or had one which was insecure, I gave it away to the overseeing "Specialised Security" before I'd even realised myself that there was a problem. I was just so robotically checking the 99% kosher wristbands, that I was always caught by surprise by finding one that wasn't and was just rubbish at covering it up. I really wanted to as well because the overseeing security were violent and horrible and it really upset me everytime they got someone! I only lasted one shift and then made an excuse and went home rather than go through that again!

It may be like this looking at pictures, you just get into a routine of looking at the photo and the person, seeing a match and moving on, but the overseeing security will be alert to any kind of involuntary double take. I think being really chatty always helps in these situations because it'll give the voluteer more of a chance to make it look like a normal exchange if they're inclined to.

I arrived first thing in the massive lines at opening time Wed - still had time for the staff to have a good look, and ask my friend to remove her sunnies.

Don't rely on time - I think it depends more on the staff.

There was a thread last year from one of the gate staff talking about the systems in place, and I seem to recall there was some sort of punishment for them if they were lax, not to mmention "secret shoppers" from the security & the local council checking the systems.

Not sure it is down to the attitude of the staffer these days.

I used a friend of a friend's ticket to get in last year because I had refunded my own ticket before the festival (had a job there, cancelled ticket but then lost the job).

Anyways, I looked pretty similar to the girl on the ticket but I made sure I had lots of glittery make up and face paintings of butterflies etc. Worked a treat BUT on a later entry/exit experience there was a fair scrutinising of the ticket which worried me a bit.

Answer is, just go in once, dont try and risk a return later when there is more time for checking by good security guards.

I would hazard a guess that this year, following the talk of just how many people did get in on other people's tickets that they may be super strict but who knows until we get there.

hi,

a friend of mine had the same problem. i contacted seetickets about it and they said the volunteers would control the gates a lot more careful this year and that there was no way my friend would be getting in without his foto being printed on the ticket so we returned his ticket. luckily enough, he got a ticket through his work so he can still go, but i wouldn't risk it. thinking about it, they might just be after the administration fee and double booking fee that they get from cancelled tickets...
