Brit Floyd

They're what used to be called The Australian Pink Floyd Show. They're touring at the moment as The British Pink Floyd Show (I'm seeing them in May) Official Site.

There's probably some reason they've changed name but hopefully the quality of their covers hasn't changed. I've seen a few Floyd covers band, as well as seeing the real(ish) Floyd back in 1994 and The Australian Pink Floyd Show was easily the best of the immitations. Note-perfect, vocally excellent and some tongue-in-cheek special effects (beach ball-sized glitter ball raised on a winch by the drummer at the end of the show :D ).

But that was then. Judging by the YouTube clips from their tour opener in Liverpool (see the links on their website) they've spent a few quid on a scale replica of the real Floyd's Pulse tour in '94.

The venue I'm seeing them at in May is probably going to be too small for their stage set so I'm wondering whether to see them at Glasto too!

Well spotted as I did not make the association - if it is TAPFS then its worth a look - if the times are right I may try and catch Melanie and a bit of Brit Floyd or vice versa depending on the times .

I have a seat for Roger Waters next month { block A1 so you cant get closer }

-------

last year they had the Bootleg Beatles at the Acoustic stage and it was packed out { and I do mean packed out } and I arrived one hour early - never even made it into the tent but a few years ago I did see them in the Acoustic stage so perhaps there is more and more people into Tribute bands.

By the way they have been at Glastonbury before in 1998 TAPFS played at the Acoustic stage but once again it was packed out - they sounded good but did not see any visuals - due to working I could not get there early so cant say how busy it was before they started.

Well that is one to mark in my to do list .

Update its former members so it looks as if its not the current The Australian Pink Floyd Show

It's all a bit complicated but I think it went like this - there were two Aussie Floyd shows, one in Europe and one in the US. The US one had a falling out with the promoters (CMP) but as they were the "original" Aussie Floyd they kept the name. Brit Floyd stayed with CMP - they also kept most of the light show that they had as Aussie Floyd.

I saw them as Aussie Floyd a couple of times and as Brit Floyd earlier this year. They are insanely good. It would be interesting to see what they are like stripped down but I won't see it as U2 are on at the same time!

Lucky enough I am old enough to have seen Pink Floyd live in the 70's and 80's and then Waters/Gilmour solo and Floyd bar Waters in the 80's - 90's.

Unlike some people I don't turn my nose up at tribute bands who have genuine talent.

of course its sods law its all kicking off on the Friday but you cant have everything

That guy Damian Darlington I did hear him play in 98 and he is well worth hearing again.

I had already made my mind up just to record U2 as I was planning to watch Melanie and if the times are right hope to catch a bit of Melanie and then up to the Acoustic area - with any luck most will be at U2 so I may be able to get into the tent this time.

I saw them on the pre-tour show in liverpool a couple of months ago - they were fantastic, and the show they put on with the stage set, lighting etc is far far better than about 90% of gigs ive been to.

If your into floyd then you will like them.. but, personally speaking I wouldnt entertain going to see a covers band at a festival - you'll be able to catch them again somewhere else year after year!!

glasto-worker: I also have a front row seat (block A, row A) for roger waters next month in manchester - cant wait!

After watching the bootleg Beatles at glasto in 07 I wouldnt go to another cover band (however good) at the fest. They belted out the hits but I somehow felt cheated and if I could turn back time, I would go and watch the who, despite the torrential rain!

Not sure if it has been correctly posted earlier in the thread, but the British Pink Floyd isboth is and is not the Australian Pink Floyd??? Confused? well you probably are  The original Australian Pink Floyd have now split, but anyway was really composed of two bands, one of which included the Australian and original group members, who toured Britain and Europe and the other Australian Pink Floyd that toured in the USA and Canada which was made up of the non Australian elements of the Europe Ausie Floyd and a few session musicians, due to the original members not wanting to spend all their time touring. Sometime last year the original Australian group members split from the management company CMP, with the regular non Australian guitarist forming a new band with the session musicians (from te USA tours) under the previous management company. When the split was anounced the British Pink Floyd sent an email anouncing that the Australian Pink Floyd had now changed its name to The British Pink Floyd to reflect a more British make up of its line up and this was quickly followed by an email from the real Australian Pink Floyd to say that TAPF had NOT changed its name (remind you of the Waters Gilmour split?).

What we will get at Glastonbury is the British lead Guitarist Damian Darlington (who plays an excellent Comfortably Numb solo), the girl backing singers and the videos, all from the original Australian Floyd and the rest made up of the session musicians who used to play the American tours. They also toured earlier this year as The Australian Classic Rock Show, despite having no Australians in the line up and to less than sold out shows. I went to see this tour and musically they were excellent, but I felt a little underwelmed but that was due to having seen most of the original bands they were playing tribute to back in the day, and these just were not them, although they probably sounded much better in many cases.

I also had the pleasure of seeing the post split Australian Pink Floyd a couple of weeks ago and they were excellent, although a very few times they did not seem to gel as much with the new guitarist, but I am sure this will develop in time, the videos were also were not a patch on the ones now owned by the British Floyd

What you can be sure of with the British Floyd at Glasto is they will be excellent and probably close to just as good as the Aussie lot and the next best thing to a Gilmour Floyd or a reformation of Waters, Gilmour and Mason

Just got back from Brit Floyd's gig in Norwich tonight and they were fab. When I last saw them (ie. Aussie Pink Floyd) they were at a live music venue but this time it was a sit down do at the theatre and they had the full stage set and light show and it was brilliant.

I have a freind who works there (and is taking the set down as I type) and he said their orchestra pit was just full of bass amps - and you could tell! He also said that this year's tour is helping them perfect the stage show and they'll be back next year bigger and better!

There was a dvd of their Liverpool show earlier in the year waiting on every seat (which was nice) that also lists their show dates through to June 2012 on the cover.

I highly recommend them to anyone thinking about seeing them. I however, will be at U2, safe in the knowledge I've already seen them this year :D

How is this for a bummer.

I have one ticket for Roger Waters on Sunday, however I have an important exam on Monday so really can't afford to miss out revision time. I have put it on ebay and it has not sold.

An opportunity of a lifetime missed and £75 less in my pocket.

If David Gilmour does turn up to that gig, I will not post on this forum again due to suicide :( DEVASTATED

I have a ticket myself for Sunday - the problem was there was a planned transport strike that was going to take place all next week and this has got some people into a panic but they appear to have settled the strike although that received a lot less publicity.

I have seen one seller selling a block of eight tickets so you have to wonder if they were genuine buyers in the first place

My seat is in Block A1 and I have seen them as high as £ 1,200 but once the strike was in the news they dropped like a stone although they are now rising up again to as high as £ 400.

I have seen him loads of times and seeing this may be the last time he does a large tour I am not going to miss it.

Only the 02 shows are being filmed for a future DVD so you are going to be kicking yourself when you watch the DVD.

I have seen Roger Waters at Glastonbury 2002 and Hyde Park in 2006 as well as the Wall Concert in Berlin on 21 July 1990 which was the best Concert I have ever seen .

gotta agree with you, i`ve been about for a few years BUT nothing will ever compare to that night.

Glasto-Worker, I'd love to hear you post some anecdotes about that Berlin show if you ever get the time. My late uncle who was a bit of a maverick went and I used to love hearing his stories about it before he died.

350,000 people at one gig..... crazy!!

    • Aldous Harding absolutely brilliant in Dublin last night. Quirky as ever but sounded magnificent. Played everything off the new album I think, it all sounded fantastic. Band, including H Hawkline, were understated but excellent. Another one to look forward to.
    • Orbital opening the Other stage is a bold choice!
    • Great start for them
    • Thanks so much - that's very helpful. Someone else mentioned getting a train from Loughborough to East Midlands Parkway, and then a festival shuttle from there to the site. I think they were then going to come back on the Skylink Derby to Loughborough - I assume this is because the trains don't run as late as the Skylink, otherwise they would just come back the same way they came?! Is the transport hub a long way from the main stage? Just wondering what time I would need to leave Linkin Park to be sure of getting a shuttle. As I say, I am sure it will all be clear on the day, even after a few beers! Just hope the rain stays away...
    • I really don't think they would put Olivia Rodrigo on Occident stage. If it was her, they would put her in earlier Mordor slot and move Big Thief or Little Simz to Occident.   Fontaines DC are more probable, but don't really match the hype. However, again, if the hype was real, the artist would end up in Mordor.   That being said, I would love to see Fontaines DC tonight.
