Bloodhound Gang 2000

I was in both crowds, have been to the last 3 glastonburys as well, crowds are less 'up for it' these days for the most part, but bare in mind that the videos posted were the peak tracks for both bands. I'm pretty sure that you can find moments from blur in '09, muse in '10 that equal those vids, sadly nothing from this year that I'm aware of (I only saw 'sedate' artists at the pyramid this year personally).

In 2000 at the front we were fighting crowd surges at travis of all people, whereas these days the main problem down the front isn't getting crushed, broken limbs and ribs, it is tripping over people in chairs or trying to see around the 'I'm here' banner that some knob is carrying.

I'm finally going through my '99, '00 and '02 coverage that I converted from VHS last year and chopping it up into songs. As long as YouTube don't remove it for copywrite infringement I should be posting lots more in the coming weeks. Maybe I'll start a dedicated thread...

Holy shit. That fun loving criminal performance was excellent. The atmosphere looked unreal. I even enjoyed the bloodhound gangs performance. The crowds seem slightly different alright. I'm getting very nostalgic here. Dare I say it, I'm starting to think Glasto has changed for the worse - slightly :(

..and how small the site was in comparison to today. We bought tickets in '99 (amazing year) and hopped over the fence in 2000 (not so amazing year, but filled with adventure of the likes of which I had not 'enjoyed' before or since) and the place seemed huge back then, it never ceases to amaze me how much bigger the place is now yet how much less space there seems to be.

It is a different animal now to then, but that doesn't make it any less 'worthy' in my opinion. 1999 was a fantastic year, with everyone happy and up for it, 2010 was very much the same. 2000, like 2009 and 2011 for me, was a good year, but not a classic, let's be honest, not every year can be (unless you buy into ME's "best year ever" proclamation each year and genuinely believe that each was better than the last and therefore the next will be better still).

There were some great crowds though, REM, FLC, Underworld and Gomez in '99 and Ocean colour scene and Cypress Hill in 2000 really stand out for me.

Of course there were more people onsite in those days but why does that mean the people down the fron are mor up for it? Perhaps crowds just enjoy gigs in a different way nowadays which is fine.

I've been watching vids from TITP in 98 and 99 which were my two first fests and the crowds look amazing, perhaps it's nostalgia but I just don't feel the fun in crowds as much anymore.

Too many c**ts standing with flags nowadays IMO.

I think its a multitude of factors, most of which have been touched on. As I think someone said, a lot of people in the FLC performance are jumping to survive. The crowd obviously isn't as packed in as it used to be. In fact the last time I remember being uncomfortable in a crowd at Glastonbury due to a crush was during Blur in 2009, but I can't believe it was that packed much further beyond where I was.

A lot more girlies at the front of stages as well these days, at least when you compare by looking at those videos. Naturally, they civilise the place up a bit
