and Bestival

and Glastonbury

Personally I've never been one to really care about "exclusivity" or any of that bollocks.

But it makes R&L seem very weak this year when the only thing that we can say you couldn't see at one of many other festival's is Muse's OoS set (no matter how excited I may be for this)

It also show's just how badly Melvin is clutching at straws when "all our headliners are exclusive" becomes "all our headliners are English exclusive" becomes "All our headliners are English exclusive or are exclusively a co-headliner at our festival!" becomes "All our headliners are English exclusive headliners, though you could see them somewhere else just not headlining"

It's a very very weak year for Leeds, but there's still enough for me to justify going. I just hope they recover and put on the festival we all know R&L can be next year.

Glastonbury is sharing Coldplay with other festivals, and at the risk of insulting a lot of people I wouldn't throw Bestival into the major festival group just yet and I doubt they had much competition to put The Cure and Public Enemy on as headliners (although in an ideal world they should have). But maybe that's just me.

You're right though, he's obviously decided that due to no massive or unique and suitable headliners being available that exclusivity is going to be selling point this year and he's flogging it to death. But ultimately it shouldn't really matter unless you're going to T or Oxegen.

Shit yeah, forgot about TiTP :P

I retract that.

Though the point about Bestival is moot for me since The Cure are obviously a massive booking who could headline most, if not all UK and European festivals, it'll be interesting to see who they have on the second night.

I find it strange how everyone is fixated on the headliners of R/L. Glastonbury is the biggest music event in the world, yet has had headliners or high performers play lower at other festivals. Does that make Glasto a lesser festival?

Yeah, Big Weekend has Foo's and two of Reading's headliners. It also has Black Eyed Peas, Tinie Tempah, Nicole Scherzinger, and Bruno Mars on the main stage. Blah

I like Reading's line up. Where are you going to find Pulp, Elbow, Jane's Addiction, Offspring, The National, Interpol, Deftones, JEW, Madness, Seasick Steve, DFA 1979, OFWGKTA, and Warpaint on the same lineup (to name a few)

I thought there might be some moaning this year about the headliners, not because of peoples taste in music, but because all the headline acts available have been done to death:KoL, Arctics, Kasabian, Muse...

IMO Bestival has the best line up of any festival so far by miles. I'm only expecting Glastonbury to beat it (they often share a lot of artists anyway). It doesn't have the big headline acts but it's bloody consistant with some brilliant DJs & bands from all genres.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
