Even at 32 my Glasto ticket is my Bday and Xmas pressie from Mum & Dad the wife and kids may sound sad but it is all i would ever ask them for i need nothing else.

So i don't really worry but i really feel for the people who may now find it a struggle now not to pay it off. i hope you find away of getting there either getting the money or working.

Good luck to all

I'm pretty sure it's for accounting reasons. Ie, keeping the festival expenses and the (majority) money coming in, in their same financial year.

Another thing, if anyone with more finance background than myself could confirm, is about VAT.

Tickets were officially sold last year so should only incur the old rate, whereas any sold in the resale will pay 20%. Feel free to correct me!

Yes

I think it is a fair comment by LT as well. Some of the people paying by student loans may well find theirselves in the same position in a few years time. My own view is that the tickets are becoming unaffordable to a whole swathe of the population who do have resposibilities beyond their own needs.

This in turn leads to a changing demographic at the festival which I do not think is for the greater good.

For a family with 2 kids over 12, the cost is now £800 before spending money. Regardless of those on here who say they would pay 'whatever it costs', I think it is unsustainable in the long term.

The coaltion cuts are goig to bit in the next few years, and current students at the time may not be willing to spend this sort of money when they are having to borrow £9000/year for their fees.

By then the festival may be the preserve of the monied only. Then again perhaps that is the case already?

Me and the miss will be missing out once again

I too wish that I could have paid the whole amount in october, I've been out of work since august and I'm struggling to pay the bills now but I had the cash then. I'm so Keith Flint I need the £80 refund now, never mind finding another £300 from thin air.

I have been about as disciplined as humanly possible since october believe me, but many of us in the real world don't have the luxury of student loans to bail us out

Sympathies. I'm hoping for a couple of tickets in the resale so whilst i should be glad there's a couple more going into the pot i'd, ideally, like them to be available because people returnin tickets had got a 'better offer' (whatever that might be) or decided to do something else or whatever. Not because someone like yourself has fallen on hard times and, consequently, I really do hope something turns up for you in the next month and you get to go. Best of luck.

With the student thing it must be said that the longer you're in uni, the less money you have.

First year you're given a maintenance loan + government grants (maybe) + £1500 odd overdraft and so freshers are just rolling in the dough and going out 4/5 nights a week.

I am a third year student and have absolutely f**k all. My student loan comes in 2 weeks after the payment needs to be taken and almost all the money I have is going to pay for my glasto ticket, and I have a part-time job.

Basically the moral of the story is - festivals are just getting far too expensive and far too many music fans are being replaced by rich kids.

Thanks for the good wishes, hope you get my tickets in the resale

With regards to previous comments about why I mentioned the student loan factor and someone responded with "I doubt students see their loans as a luxury, more of a way of paying for their education to get ahead in life", well my point rather speaks for itself. For example, I did'nt say most students see their loan as a luxury, it's when the loans are being used to pay for glasto which is in essence an extra curricular "holiday" for them, then how in any way is that anything other than a luxury ? Student loans to pay for the education is already catered for and paid directly to the university, the loans in question are called maintenance loans to pay for student digs, utilities and food, for their "living costs" and by it's very nature is something that is paid in good faith in order for a student meet living expenses. The £9000 tuition fees (which are only being charged by a few of the top establishments) clearly are not hurting most students at the moment so I dont believe the hype, I live in a university city and the people with the most expendable cash are still the students. I've studied myself in the past and some friends of mine are in education now so by no means do I have any problems with students, just the fact that it is a luxury to use maintenance loans in this frivolous fashion and not a something in the working world that they would have without getting into more serious debt and a far more stern payment structure, not a good way to start controlling finances in life.

My sympathies go out to the poster who has been made redundant, that's terrible regardless of being able to afford a festival ticket or not. As for the student loan thing, my job and some disciplined saving pays for luxuries like Glastonbury and the same goes for the other 3 students in my group. The student loan goes on the essentials meaning that some of my wages are freed up for spending on socialising. I didn't mean to infer that I've been squandering my loan, far from it, if I didn't work then I would have struggled to afford festivals.

Harsh thread. I know how people feel about struggling for the funds this time of year.

I had the money to pay mine (and my 18yr old daughters ticket - her 1st Glasto) in October but reality bites and with myself not working much in winter time and the girlfriend now a student, we find it hard to afford luxuries.

Might still manage it, but I can work Glasto so need to see what happens over next few weeks.... fingers crossed

Give him a break LT, it was just a throwaway comment, I am sure he feels a bit bitter, he is going to miss out on a great week and is feeling the pinch. I don't know the posters age, but I went to university before loans, etc., and I suspect he is possibly thinking that life is a bit easier for some sections of society than others. Let it go!!

Do all the student loans come through for everyone at once? Because I was under the impression my final loan payment of the year wasn't until the beginning of May due to the late Easter.

I've been searching around online but can't find a payment timetable.....

My loan comes in on the 26th, but I budgeted some of my bursary money for Glasto. I am going without luxuries this term due to glastonbury, could really do with the extra £130 for food and bills but I'd regret that in June.

It's going to be a very expensive day for me as I am moving into a new house then so have to find £590 deposit, £550 rent and then the ticket on top. We are sending 2 back as the missus and I have split up since getting them and shes not coming (I'm keeping the £40 as paid it out) and her friend has dropped out, so good look in the resales anyone trying.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
