sadly...i heard it too. Cleansing myself with the Andrew Weatherall 6mix now.

edit: she sounded pretty genuine and has written loads of big pop songs from the last couple of years. Miley Cyrus royalties must be worth a few bob. Wouldn't go see her though

Not sure about her, I absolutely loathe "Do It Like a Dude" but she has a brilliant voice which was showcased on Jools, just seems like another Lady GaGa. Would've rather had an announcement from one of the other artists shortlisted for Sound of 2011 than her.

Totally agree. Perhaps it's the fact that she kind of sounds like some big American acts of our time. The Cowell set seem to like that kind of tribute act.

God I miss the times when the Kinks, Madness, New Order, Stone Roses, FatBoy etc lead the way.

She'll probably be low down on the JP Stage I reckon.

I have read her album has a bit of range on it. I've only heard 'Do it like a Dude', as I suspect most of the posters here have. She may have more to come. I think 'Do it like a Dude' was maybe her Lagy Gaga moment. Safe, catchy and bound to be reasonably popular track to start with (i.e Just Dance).

Or she could just be ripping Ke$ha off. This can't be a good thing.

And yeah she will be early on the J.P stage I'm sure.

I've only heard 2 songs by her and to me she just sounds like a carbon copy of 75% of all the other female solo acts out there. Nothing new or original to her really so i'm struggling to understand the hype but I suppose the sound of 2011 was looking for someone who'll be succesful this year, not an artist thats actually doing something interesting.

isn't this 'Sound of..' poll just who the BBC and the record labels have decided we should be sold this year? "this years style for the kids will be female pop (again), they'll buy it"

i haven't heard Jessie J, but after Florence and her Machine and Ellie Goulding in recent years they can keep it tbh.

who is ripping off uffie.... :P

Yeah but I think I actually prefere Ke$ha to Uffie.

Florence didn't win it. Little Boots won it the year Florence came third. White Lies were seocnd. Funnily enough Mumford and Sons didn't make the top 5 that year. Sadly something went drasticlly wrong when Little Boots made her album and the direction, marketing and single releases were just awful. Shame as the album is brilliant in places.

That year goes to show that the list doesn't really reflect record sales.

It is a bit of a joke though and does seem to always pick a solo female artist. Adele was a good shout though.

Saw her on Jools Holland and thought the acoustic track she did was great. I hastened to her website/myspace and was disappointed to heat the kesha/uffie/etc cookie cutter "edgy" female rapper/singer stuff. Shame really as the urban/acoustic thing she did was great.

I expect a packed JP tent on this one though

do you like any of the sound of 2011? Still not sure how Esben and the Witch ended up on the list. Worth a listen and nothing like the rest.

Esben's album was leaked yesterday (really unfortunate for them) but it sounds incredible. Hope they are at Glastonbury.

On the note of Jessy J, she sounds awful, but was always going to be making a Glastonbury appearance. Probably a similar slot to Ellie from last year on the John Peel + something in the Orange tent, once again, like Ellie last year

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
