Weather thread 2011

I promised myself and everyone else that I wouldn't post here today because I was becoming too stressed and even more weird than usual!

However I must say this, I love Metchecks blazing sun image.

Nope. I base the fact that I wouldn't use it even if it was accurate on the fact that the owner is a convicted paedophile currently serving 8 and a half years for raping a 14 year old boy.

Wow, I could summon up much greater contrived outrage than you're managing. But that still wouldn't change anything about what he may or may not have done, and neither would it affect the weather forecasts.

1)[*]Its 3 day forecast from Friday showed 289 mph winds today.

that's clearly something so wrong it would be foolish to take any notice of it. The fact that that one part is wrong says nothing of whether any other parts are.

Say what you want, I really don't care. Use Metcheck/don't use Metcheck. If there's a general opinion that my links to forecast sites and explanations of meteorology are unwanted then I'll stop. As they are generally praised at the moment then I'll carry on.

Lap up that praise then.

I'll stick with the weather site which has been far more accurate for the last 3 Glastonbury's than any other. :)

I just thought I would reply to this thread as it seems to have a record number of replies and I didn't want to be one of the view missing from it!

I don't think anyone knows what to expect, least of all the so called experts with their multi million £ computer models. When we had dry weather they were predicting a scorcher; now we've had some rain they are talking about a wet one. I think I see their thought patterns, and we could all do what the Met Office does!

I think there are people at Metcheck who like to take the piss out of people who check the site for glasto weather, before now there has been predictions of 300 C temps and 1000mph winds. I imagine everything other than the winds is the best to their knowledge

Knew nothing about the Mheck guy until I joined this forum, I moved from SE to Cornwall 7 yrs ago and several farmers put me onto MCheck, I thought if it was good enough for them to trust good enough for me, and have to say, apart from odd 'extreme' f...up ie: the 289 mphr wind that I posted last week, they seem to get it pretty much right for down here, always check for stewarding winter horse events, and sadly they always get the bloody wet weather spot on, hope it goes for the sun!! what ever, will be there shaking my booty again and lovin it!!!

AND Andy Murray just won at Queens, that is definately a good omen!

I don't think the troops are doing too badly considering the weather we've been having recently + the weather which has been forecasted.

Of course we'd all like the weather to be amazing at the festival and set in stone by now but obviously that's never going to be the case.

One more week of unity and Germans then we'll be there!

Always believe.

I guess we'd all like to believe the good forecasts (from whatever source) and rubbish the less good ones. If Metcheck forecasts good weather (and others don't) and Metcheck turn out right, then I won't complain. However, my experience over the last couple of years is that they've been pretty crap any more than a day or so out, and clearly the great majority of forecasts looking just a day or two down the line are going to be quite accurate. As someone who knows virtually nothing about this stuff, I really appreciate people like Devon Hammer who have something approaching knowledge and are willing to share it with us (with provisos).

    • Having done all three, Porto is lovely, very chilled but nowhere near as exciting as Barcelona (nor as many options). Bilbao BBK has charm but again not a patch on Barcelona really.   ps and the beer was 5.50, not 5, last year 😉
    • Honest question and with the risk of getting slaughtered, do you feel people should stop the chatting on the entire field? When my group is in the front rows we surely keep the talking to a minimum and largely only about how great or bad the artist is. But surely on the main field when you are further back (lets say around the bars (200 meters from the podium) you should be able to have a conversation. If people are still annoyed about that I would recommend them moving up further.
    • I just genuinely think they don't understand technology and its felt like this since the invention of the internet.   Also see say a speech on a Monday saying we want to be a world leader in "this thing" then on a Wednesday another speech saying "this thing" is bad and needs to be banned/regulated out of existance.
    • My party again had an outstanding 4 days in Barca. We made the right call to leave the festival site early at about 10.30 on Thursday to get ourselves some excellent steaks in the city. I am with everyone that the organization should have been clearer about what is going on and also if you would like to get rid of some attendees open more exits, they sent us from gate to gate until we finally were able to get out. Biggest 'disappointment' was the beer price, a YoY increase from 5 to 6 is absolutely nuts!!! (i am living in Switzerland so me making this comment says something 🙂)   Top 10:   1. Men I Trust 2. Role Model (could have been first as well, what a great artist and great songs) 3. The XX 4. The cure (the last 90 minutes) 5. Gorillaz 6. MBV 7. Ninajirachi (another big miss of the organization, clearly on the wrong podium and wonder if Olivia's surprise set had something to do with that and they had to reschuffle late the Occident, Cupra and Port schedules) 8. NewDad 9. Big Thief 10. Annastashia      We did 3 years Barca now and for next year looking at the Porto or Bilbao festivals as an option.
    • Personally if it was me now, I would be grabbing a green camping ticket with the knowledge closer when I've refreshed that I can still choose general if I want to....you can't do the opposite!    I would say if you are happy to watch your headliners and big bands further back to be able to see who you actually plan to later then yes it is fine. Its a much difference experience to any other festival especially food wise and camping surrounds.    Once you're in the arena as well you're not going back unless you've got a gap. If I go again I'll be going with the option of not trying to push the front and enjoying further back as you actually put too much pressure on it than the time take away can forget to enjoy other acts.
