I enjoyed them - all I'm saying is that the people who didn't, clearly didn't think they needed to do homework to prepare for a Glastonbury headline set.

Personally - I was never a fan of The Fall (didn't dislike them either - was just into other stuff), wouldn't recognise Mark E Smith if I fell over him in the street, but that doesn't stop me respectnig him as an artist or being impressed that he appeared. I just would've liked to know at the time rather than later. I don't know if that would've changed what I thought of it for better or worse, but I think it would've improved it for a lot of people, and had a knock on effect for the rest of us who had to put up with their crap as they moved on.

What did spoil my enjoyment of the set was people's need to boo, or shout how shit and boring it was as they left. If The Gorillaz could have done anything to alleviate that, it would've been good. Introducing the guest artists might've been one of those things.

If you dont recognize the special guests, then your probably not that into them, so whats it matter ?

how does not knowing you have seen someone affect your enjoyment of a band, would you have clapped louder if you had been told who they were ?

For years I have hoped for a Glastonbury appearance from some of my dad's RocknRoll heroes like Little Richard for example - if he did a set it would be unmissable for me! However - if he'd appeared halfway through this set, performing material that wasn't familiar to me, I probably wouldn't have recognised him, because I know what he used to look like but wouldn't necessarily recognise him now, or out of context

I wouldn't mean that I'd enjoy the music any more or less, but I'd like to enjoy the fact that I'm seeing Little Richard, rather than find out later that it wasn't just some random old black guy that performed that bit I loved!

I need to stop because if i haven't made any sense yet, i'm not going to.

mark e smith has to have one of the most recognizable faces in british music... nobody else looks like him thats for sure!!

and as for doing something about dickheads booing and shouting comments as they left, perhaps they should have banned anyone in a u2 tshirt from the pyramid field that night as they seemed to be the worst offenders from what i saw  i'd imagine there were quite a few of them there who had only bought a ticket to see bono and the other twats churn out a couple of hours of stadium rock shite and were going to be pissed off no matter who had replaced them but especially when it was something so different from the usual garbage they listen to, hopefully they wont have any reason to return to glastonbury again!

Well - that didn't read the way i meant it to then! I don't think people should have to do homework either - that's why i'm trying to argue that they should've introduced the guests....or did you just read the first line of that post and explode?

1) you dont but it might actually help you find out if thats the right gig for you instead of turning up for a band that plays music you probably wont like

2) so you admit knowing who all the guests were didn't add to your enjoyment of the gig at all yet you wanted to have the guests announced as you think it would have made the gig more enjoyable for everyone else?

Ive zero sympathy for anyone who turned up to Gorillaz without knowing anything about their stuff.

In fact I'm glad they were put out by how inaccessible it may have appeared. F*ck ignorance and dumbed down music culture.
