I think there will be lots of managers who will fancy a punt on ireland. Villa wont get 8 million for him and will probably have to take a hit on the transfer fee to get him off the books.

Agree about O Neil, despite a tendancy to buy players and not play them. He still managed to get top 6 finishes with the 5 teams above having bigger wage bills. The idea to focus on the youth is admirable and sounds good to the fans. However many teams seem to come out with this idea and then struggle. If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

He got a top six finish yup, but look at what Moyes did with Everton and theres no way WHATSOEVER Everton had anywhere near our wage bill let alone a higher wage bill. I believe that if O'Neill was still at the club now we wouldn't be in that much of a different position in the league.

A lot of clubs do the youth policy its just they sell on instead of keeping the talent when they become established.

I think a couple of years ago not last season but the one before, when Liverpool finished second, we had a VERY good chance of finishing 4th, we were 3rd and 4th for a lot of that season and Arsenal were out the top 4 then in the last 3 months of the season, due to lack of buys in January, and the complete lack of rotating the squad we had an awful run of results and finished 6th.

That point in time was the time that O'Neill lost a shit load of fans at Villa, cus he and only he with his stubborn behaviour undid all the good he had done.

Last season he brought Delph in and said it was to be a first team player, played him once then dropped him forevermore, he played Albrighton in preseason and he was FANTASTIC, as was Reo Coker as captain, when the season started he dropped them both. Look at Albrighton this season now O'Neill's gone and he's been brought into the team, done brilliant.

Bannan who was playing amazing in the reserve league was getting tipped as being a quality player and should be brought into the first team, and Bannan has revealed himself, O'Neill said to him he refused to play him in the premier league cus he was worried he couldn't hack it and wasn't tall enough and told him to find another club.

Seriously, from the outside looking in O'Neill was the best thing that ever happened to Villa, but really it was the infastructure that was there already and Lerner who came in and yes O'Neill helped stablise Villa, but say had O'Leary came in at that time I think he would have done just as good a job, but instead he will go down as an awful Villa manager. Next season will be Houillers season, O'Neill's first season we finished 11th I think, so Houiller should be given more time.

You misunderstand what Im saying, I saying now, I think that Houiller isn't getting shit loads of cash so he should go for the younger player across Europe and bring them in who will do a job and won't break the bank, today we've been linked with Gueida Fofana, a young defensive Midfielder who plays in France.

O'Neill whilst admirable, spent a lot on players because they were English, like Curtis Davis £10million and gave him stupid clauses like he is now in which is why he hasn't got a league game whereas if he plays one more league game then I believe he gets a 50% increase in his wages.

Im moving on from O'Neill now, no point in dwelling in the past, im saying im happy with what appears to be the way we are moving forward. And im not saying its better to finish 8th playing worse, im saying we are playing better and come next season we should be able to maintain form throughout the season instead of crumbling like we did EVERY season under O'Neill cus Houiller seems to pick players on how they're player not if they're his favourites, and he isn't afraid to make a sub.

Boro have just confirmed Wheater will be sold in January, we are the favourites to sign him. But theres loads of other clubs interesting too Everton, Wolves, Blackburn, Newcastle and Stoke apparently.

Nice to see business done early for once! makes a change from O'Neill, window isn't even open and deals are being done.

Daily Mail says he's the new Vierra and going to be a huge player for France in the future and that Chelsea and Liverpool wanted him but Houller's french links got the deal done for Villa, very happy with this deal

But I'll tell you what, there is no team in the world playing as entertaining football as we are right now. Even a lot of the games we've drawn and lost this season have been absolute crackers. Frankly I don't care if we don't go up. But it'll be a travesty for the sport if we lose any outfield players in January.
