A colleague had 22 through the door all day, another 30 (polling stations in Stoke).

around 75 people had voted here by 7pm. Judging by the crowd of balaclava wearing nutters outside the polling station - mainly EDL.

so the first Crime Commissioner to get elected is a tory councillor, an ex-magistrate, and a retired accountant, who's big idea is to get charities to give more support to victims of crime.

It's a massive change from the mono-thought types who've previously run the police, and it's going to change the world.

I would imagine that Bristol had a fairly high turn out given that they were voting on the mayor today aswell.

Not being officially affiliated with one political party does not mean an individual does not share one political parties leanings.

I.e. other than in exceptionally rare cases, independents are usually labour/lib dem/tory in all but name

I don't want my MP here... I want them in Westminister getting on with the job personally.

An MP should spend at least as much time in his/her own constituency as they do at Westminster. How can they represent their constituency in parliament if they're not in touch with their constituents?

As well as attending debates, voting on proposed changes to the law, and raising issues affecting their constituents, surely they should be holding local surgeries? Attending local functions, visiting local schools and businesses, meeting the people they're representing? To understand local issues and interact with the people they represent they need to spend time in their constituency, not spending all their time potentially hundreds of miles away in Westminster
