i like more Gorillaz songs all in all, and i think them + all the guests will be so so good. such a different performance from the usual Glastonbury headliner

but the few songs from U2 that i like i LOVE, and it would've been a once in a lifetime thing seeing them at Glastonbury

so... i voted both :P

U2 have the legend status. I feel that Gorillaz are more spiritually in tune with the anarchic fun that is glastonbury. I would have gone to see u2 for the spectacle, I WILL go to see Gorillaz for the spectacle. Swings and roundabouts innit.

Shame for the u2 fans, of course, it would have been a legendary night for sure. The actual night may however, now be a real glasto classic moment in it's own right.

I prefer the gorillaz personally, on a pure musical basis, but it would still have been pretty amazing to see the whole 'cult of u2' live thing they have built since the 90s come to the glastonbury stage. U2 live are about so much more than just the music, imo

I went for U2. Still a bit gutted they're missing. Was so looking forward to them.

Gorrilaz are a great band, but there are lots of great, contemporary bands at Glastonbury. What I really like about the festival (above and beyond the other big festivals, which also generally have pretty great line ups) is the retro, organic feel it has about it, and for me, U2 really added to that. I know a lot of people see them as being egotistical posers (probably very accurately), but for me they are a massive part of my childhood and history. My parents used to have 'Unforgettable Fire' in the car when we were kids (ah, mid eighties!), and I remember my whole family singing along to 'Pride' and 'Bad'. This is what I was looking forward to - when Glasto taps into this sort of timeless musical belonging. However much I like current bands, like Gorrilaz, they just don't have that (yet - not saying they won't ever!) So I voted U2. Really sad not to see them.

Never mind, I've still got Al Stewart to satisfy my childhood throwback urges. (Alas, Squeeze have also disappeared - we had 'Cool For Cats' in the car too. My parents' car seems to be a zone of death for rumoured Glasto bands)...

Absolutely U2 for me. I quite like Gorrilaz and would rather they headline than Dizzee, but I'm not that familiar with them, whereas I love just about everything U2 have ever done and have been a fan since the early 80s. Just hoping they will play next year.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
