Well chuffed! I reckon this will be really good - all those Latin rythyms and boundless sex appeal - if it's a sunny one could be just the ticket PLUS lots of fit ladies will turn up. Nice add to the line up.

I will either watch her or the football, depending on who England are playing and if we don't f**k it completely and go out at the group stage lol.

I like some of her stuff, plus she is FIT so it could be worse. They couldve booked Madonna. GAG!

Great booking :P

When I was travelling round South America last year I was really surprised by her image over there. She's almost seen as the edgy gangster chick, not the cleancut pop idol she is over here. She does a hell of a lot of work for the poor in Colombia and obviously cares greatly for charity, but doesn't do it in for the PR campaigns like some other stars do. Couldn't think of a more relevant popstar to play Glastonbury.

Saturday seems extremely weak on the Pyramid stage, hopefully Robert Plant gets the other TBA slot and saves it.

Either way it gives me an excuse to watch the footie or The Cribs/Editors.

As others have already said, some people on here don't seem to recognise what the pyramid stage is for. Look back over the past 10 years or so and you'll find stacks of similar acts. So what if it's pop. There was plenty of that last year and the year before, but there's still a heap of great music on offer throughout the site. More interesting in my mind, is that this quashes rumours that they were somehow holding this free with a view to putting the world cup football up on the big screen.

All the doubters need to open up a little. She's not just a pretty pop star. You're missing something if you think so.

She has won two Grammy Awards, seven Latin Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been Golden Globe-nominated. She is also the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time, and the second most successful female Latin singer having sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

In childhood, Shakira preferred rock and roll music, listening heavily to her favorite rock bands like Led Zeppelin,[The Beatles, Nirvana, The Police and U2. She lists John Lennon as her #1 musical influence. She was also deeply influenced by The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, The Who, The Pretenders, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cure, Richard Daniel Roman, Tom Petty, Depeche Mode, The Clash, Ramones, who influenced on her many prominent songs. In a recent interview to Elenco magazine, she noted that in her opinion the perfect songs are "Imagine" by John Lennon and "No Woman, No Cry" by Bob Marley.

On December 7, 2009 Shakira was honored as a guest at the University of Oxford to give a speech about her work with children and education. She was chosen by the Oxford Union and joined the ranks of Albert Einstein, several US Presidents, Mother Teresa, and the Dalai Lama XIV, as a chosen speaker. During the speech, Shakira said, "That is how I want the youth of 2060 to see us: That our mission for global peace consisted of sending 30,000 educators to Afghanistan, not 30,000 soldiers. That in 2010, world education became more important than world domination."[97]

In March 2010, she was awarded a medal by the United Nations' International Labor Organization in recognition of being, as UN Labor Chief Juan Somavia put it, a "true ambassador for children and young people, for quality education and social justice

A few years ago (OK, 10 years ago) she'd have been on the Jazz/World stage, and all the chin-stroking World Music fans would have wet themselves. Singing in English made her more popular, but less appealing to the snobs.

Hmmmm Shakira or Kylie, tough decision as to who I’d want to play more, I think the only solution is for this to be settled in the same way women have been settling their disputes for centuries…….

A good old fashioned bikini wrestle in the famous Glastonbury mud, I’ll be the judge as I have all the necessary licences, accreditations and insurances.

One thing I like about Shakira though is her small breasts, I keep getting large boobs and mountains mixed up which is really annoying and occasionally embarrassing, especially when I go and see my Mum & Dad who live in the Lake District.

As some have mentioned before, Shakira wasn't always the pop girl she's now. Before dying her hair blonde and unleashing herself to the world with that Wherever song, she was a slightly chubby artist that had three or four albums released in Latin America, that range from rock/pop to folk and a touch of world music. She used to do most of the songwriting for her albums and is a skilled guitar player. She sould out to the pop world but I still think she could put on a good show...

It doesn't seem like very good planning on Glasto's part.

From what I can see, the main "pop" acts are N-Dubz, Chipmunk, Kelis, Shakira and Scissor Sisters, and they're all on saturday evening. Thought they might have spread them out a bit to be honest. There's going to be some nasty clashes for the musically challenged that evening

according to this article, Shakira will be releasing the offical World Cup song :

Official World Cup song

"A song by both Colombian superstar Shakira and African-based Freshlyground has been selected as the official World Cup Anthem, according to The Associated Press. "Time for Africa" will be released to radio stations globally next week and will be downloadable on April 26. Shakira and Freshlyground will perform the song live at the World Cup kickoff concert in Soweto on June 10, as well as at the tournament's opening ceremony and before the final on July 11."

(and at Glastonbury ?)

she does some fantastic belly dancing lads, you'll miss a treat if you go elsewhere !

Shakira Belly Dancing on You Tube

(and i bet most of the audience will be belly dancing women too !) it will be quite a sight to see...:P
