Elton John to make appearance with Muse?

Now before I begin, I know this is going to sound tenuous! I recognise it'll sound like absolute bullshit along the lines of my mate's brother's sister's dad's dog's cousin's mate knows someone etc etc but I have no reason to doubt my source so hear me out!

A friend of mine works for a media company and his boss often moves in VIP circles. Last week his boss attended one of the NME Awards after parties and was sat drinking with Matt Bellamy for an hour. During their conversation they discussed Muse's upcoming Glastonbury headline slot and Bellamy revealed to him that they had arranged for Elton John to make an appearance on stage to perform with them during their headline slot.

As I said, I have no reason to doubt this source as I know my friend wouldn't make this up and he says he trusts what his boss says too so there you go. Make what you will out of it but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this happen.

You know, not that this particular combo would tempt me - I'm no Elton fan and would only see Muse if there was nothing else to do - but I was going to start a thread along similar lines about something I thought would be good for the 40th only. That is for say, the last 3 or 4 numbers, the headliners are joined onstage by a previous headliner and they play soem of the previous headliner's songs as a tribute

eg; U2/Bowie closing with Suffragette City, Changes, Space Oddity and Heroes

Muse/Macca closing with Back In The USSR, Sgt Pepper, Live and Let Die, Hey Jude

Not sure who for Stevie (is Macca too obvious and Cheesy?) but I think he would add a lovely funky touch to Motorcycle Emptiness, You Love Us, Motown Junk (cough) and A Design For Life

I think the Live & Let Die suggestion is a beaut (personally)

    • I agree that we’ll never really know up until the concert happens (and even then we still may not know) but I think promoters are having to come up with new tactics to combat ‘blue dot fever’ (already hating that phrase!) and trying to imply that concerts are selling better than they actually are / available tickets are in short supply is definitely one of them.    To add though, it is quite common at the O2 Arena for the rear blocks to not go on sale (and then remain closed for the concert and covered over to hide the empty seats). And equally common for standing to sell out first, then side/lower tier seating next and rear/upper tier seating last.    Jungle’s two concerts at the O2 are a good comparison for this - for their 1st (announced) date, all blocks are on sale and seats in all sections remain unsold, whereas for their 2nd date, the rear blocks are greyed out (more so than for Muse) and equally lots of seats remain unsold in the blue blocks. Standing for both concerts are showing as sold out.
    • MGK can and should headline. I was at one of his shows earlier in the year as a very casual fan, and there were a lot of alt people there. The show was actually class and he completely won me over. Anyone who opposes him headlining is just a gatekeeper imo, we need to move with the times.
    • Ultimately Glasto is just part of the festival circuit, however special we may think it is. The vast majority of its headliners have done many others
    • From Magyar’s FB:   ”Our country's energy and water supply is stable. As of today, voluntary consumption reduction is no longer necessary. The turbine at the Paks power plant is generating stably. Thanks to precipitation in Austria, the water level of the Danube will temporarily rise by 20–30 centimeters. Thank you, Hungary, for the unprecedented national unity shown in recent days! We have much to be proud of, and much to carry forward into the period ahead.”
    • I hope it stays under £400.  A lot of us aren't flush with cash.  Charities are great but do they need £1 mil (I jest)
