IM sorry to be blunt! but nowhere in my post have i mentioned a ban on chairs, ive got no gripes with the people who need to take a chair and sit down because theyre unable to stand for a long period of time, my gripe is with the people who cant be arsed folding the chair up when they are not using it! hence taking up a shedload of space!

Few simple changes

1. No flags in front of stages - no matter how near or far you are.

2. No chairs allowed near the front of the stage. If you can't stand for an hour then get your ass to the back and consider whether a music festival is the right place for you.

3. If anyone is sat or shoulders or stood on chair people can throw whatever they like at them

Everyones view improves apart from the selfish people

back to an older post - how am I going to find my way back to where I was in the crowd without flags to guide me?

As far as flags are concerned, isn't the idea to stand out?, but it kind of loses it's effect when it seems every other person has one, and quite often the exact same flag!

there are always landmarks to find, other than that you would be lost, its not always a bad thing some of the best memories of festivals are from when being lost :P

Poeple found their way back to the place in the crowd for many years before the flag pandemic.

There was a time before mobile phones were invented either, you lost your mates then you might not see them again for 4 days :P

I certainly know which gig had the best atmosphere and which gig I would defo have enjoyed the most just from looking at the crowd shots during the performance

I'm really hoping that some of this does come off, e.g. general pressure, note in the programme, maybe on the screens. Don't want them to go altogether, but it was daft last year. We were one or two people back from the Pyramid crush barrier for Neil Young and Springsteen and Sausage bloke was "in the pit" just in front of us. It was ridiculous.

Love them in the campsites though. We had a great flag, about 2 foot by 3 foot, a friend made it, it was a white sheet with a dog painted on it. We had it at our camp and we had it in the crowd for Neil Young and a few other bands. It was small compared to the others, and I think a few home made flags definitely improves the atmosphere.

i like the idea of taking charge and using peer pressure to get the flags down. a bit of backing from GFL via the fine guide and their website and we could get the job done ourselves without there being an outright ban.

i also have hopes that less flag-toting tw@ts will be around this year. purely because there were so many last year that it meant only a sea of flags was visible rather than any particular flag (with the exception of that damned sausage guy), thus lessening the bloody point of the 'look at me' generic bought-at-a-stall ones. bring back things on sticks. maximum fun and minimal viewing space taken up.

No one would see the video announcement because there would be all these bloody flags in the way

Agreed with earlier posts.... it would be very anti-Glasto to get heavy about the whole thing. I am sure the number of flags would go way down if they were discouraged nicely in the program and with on-screen messages between bands. Some nice person saying 'Hello.. your flags are lovely and look great in the campsites, BUT near the stages they really do spoil the view for a lot of people.. Please, keep your flags away from the stages and wherever you are in the performance fields take them down during performances". Maybe add to that not selling them at the festy and that's all you would need to do. Might take more than one Glasto but I bet as soon as those on-screen requests come on people will start taking them down.

I still think they look fantastic and they've never spoiled my view... but I can't ignore the chorus of efestivals disapproval.... I apprecaite they've been getting a bit OTT.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
