Right, I have gone ahead and booked my ticket! Should be 6/7 of us going at least - although I'm the only one to get their ticket so far. Hope they don't sell out before Friday!

Really excited, first festival abroad and a lot that I want to see. Can't wait!

Fellow PP followers...

After seeing the other thread on this board about the ease of picking up various narcotics (beni i think i it is) i was wondering if people who have been to Pukkelpop in the past could tell me how easy it is to pick stuff up, the good spots to find it, and all that sort of stuff!

Any help would be much appreciated, Cheers in advance.

Have been there the last few years and i always pay a visit to Maastricht which is only 45 mins away to pick up some green.

In the boiler room it is always easy to pick up stimulants. Just dont be a dick when approaching people and you will be ok...

The bus leaves from the station in Hasselt. I haven't done the trip myself but I'm sure I read some posts on the official forum or another local one saying that the route is quite well watched by the local plod, especially around the time of PP. It'd probably be fine though if you take the usual precautions of hiding it up properly :P

I don't know if I'd use the word easy in relation to picking things up in the Boiler but it is possible if you try hard enough/get lucky. I met some lads from Scotland last year who said they asked loads of people on Thursday but got nowhere. They'd been a couple of times before and seemed pretty clued up so it wasn't like they didn't know how to go about it. You won't find any dealers like at UK fests, only locals who bring their own supply for the weekend so you may come across someone who's kind enough to sort you out but I wouldn't bank on it. Might also be worth getting to know your neighbours in the campsite.....

Rumour has it we'll get some new names on Tuesday :P

Hasselt is just a small town with loads of bars and restaurants so there's no point heading there to look for anything. It's strange because when you're in Hasselt you wouldn't even know a massive festival is taking place a couple of miles up the road because it's so quiet.

Pukkelpop is nothing like UK festivals where you get a small number of people there solely to deal, rob tents, tout tickets etc. Everyone I've ever seen/come across is there for the festival - I've never heard anyone walking round the Boiler advertising their wares like you get at festivals (particularly the dance ones) here. The ironic thing is that, aside from in front of the stages, there's virtually no security and the only police I've ever seen are outside the main arena stopping traffic so people can cross the busy road to and from the campsite. You'll see people skinning up everywhere though and when I spoke to someone about it one year their answer was, '...it's Pukkelpop so nobody minds...'

Obviously I'm only talking from my experiences and from others I've spoken to so your best bet is to follow Stretchryan's advice and see what happens :P

Hey am new to these forums and this festival so few qs;

Am wondering what Pukkelpop is like. I've never been to a festival outside UK and am seriously considering going to Pukkelpop. Debated wheter to go last year but in the end didnt have the cash.

I was wondering what the atmoshperes like at this festival have been to a load in England including Glade, WOMAD, Big Chill. I love the indie line-up thats at the festival but am also interested in the rock and kind of club music. So can anyone also say what the reaction or atmoshpere is like to drum-n-bass, dubstep and house at the festival and what the crowd and people who attend are generally like ( as in is it family friendly?, most people drinking?, a lot of people doing drugs? and what people are like?)

Also would be nice to know if theres much to do around the area of Belgium? As planning to go there for a few days a few days before the festivals

Cheers

Jabu, Pukkelpop was my first European festival (I'm from the states) and one thing that stood out was how nice everyone was. Easy conversation and willing to help if you asked. The average age is a bit younger than most though, about 19-20 I'd say. Not too many drugs or not done openly anyway. It struck me as more of a drinking festival but on the whole people did pretty well controlling their drinking considering it was so readily available. By American standards anyway, whatever that means. Not sure I'd take the family there because it's definitely got a party atmosphere.

As you've probably seen they've got two dance tents and embrace all kinds of dance music with open arms. It's what influenced me to attend last summer and what has me coming back for another go this year. There was a little DnB and not much dubstep but I'm sure both will be widely embraced this year. The DnB I saw last year certainly was. And this year we've got High Contrast and Laurent Garnier! At the same festival! I expect both to set the Boiler Room ablaze in their own way.

Hope that helps.

And thanks for the info, Semiprini. Sounds like taking a 45 minute bus eeach way is more of a hassle than it's worth. I don't need any enhancers per-se but they certainly would be a welcome addition to the weekend. Last year I ended up stumbling across some people rolling joints in the locker area and they were kind enough to sell me 10 euros worth upon request. It seems that one can find pretty much anything if you ask enough people nicely.

Cheers Semprini, I will be 36 (just), at this years PP, nice to know I wont be the oldest one there :P

Like you say its a mixed crowd and I think with Maiden playing this year, the average age of festival goers will be pushed up a bit.

Ive promised my wife that I will stop going to festivals when I am older than the headliners.....

Well I'm 34 and have started to go quite grey but I don't feel out of place at all :P

In the absence of anything official, Kate Nash has self-confirmed on myspace for Friday 20th August. I saw her there back in 2007 when she was just breaking but doubt I'll bother this time round. Someone I definitely will be seeing though is Chase and Status. I went to their gig in Norwich the other night and they put on a great show. I wasn't convinced how 'live' it really was but that's not the point as they whipped up a superb atmosphere and the tunes were very loud and bass heavy. They'll go down a storm in the Dance Hall and I strongly advise anyone who's into drum and bass/dubstep or is familiar with their album to definitely check them out, you won't be disappointed :P

imagine iggy or daft punk!

stilll no lineup today though.

Here's hoping for the following

Roxy Music

Daft Punk

Gorillaz

Royksopp

The Specials

Iggy and the Stooges.

Chemical Brothers

Most of them are possibilities as all of them are doing festivals this year aside from Daft Punk.

Got a feeling we're gonna get Massive(ly boring live) Attack and Snow Patrol though.
