Pukkelpop 2010

Hmm, I'm not overly excited about the line up on that first announcement - none of the headliners really appeal, but I'm guessing this is about 20% of the finished article? Line up is not too important to me as it is, but I sense it might be hard to get my mates to go on the basis of this line up alone...will it sell out quickly, or will there be more bands announced before the sale date?

Having seen the line up so far, I have started exploring other options.

Unless something startling gets announced soon, I won't be at Pukkelpop :P

The English language ticket booking sites, are they available from 20th April or would I have to wait until 3rd May? Need to turn the screw on the gang I am going with and 20th April would wolb be better so I can get them committed then book all the flights and hotels etc.

You will be able to book the tickets in the English section of the site from 20th April. 3rd May is when physical tickets go on sale in shops in Belgium.

Cons: Limited range of food and drinks on offer, tents very close together and big queue to get into the campsite on Wednesday and not much else to do apart from the music.

.... and another headliner is TBA.

Thanks for all the insights provided, very useful/informative, glad to hear that I can buy tickets in English form 20th (assuming they would also include the free public transport, anything to be aware of for redeeming that?)

Seems like fest is very close to Hasslelt, I'm guessing it's easy to get to and we could venture out for a decent feed the odd morning, should the mood take us?

Other main stage headliner is that? If so, even more awesome. Had assumed Maiden/Prodge/QOTSA were healiners. If it turned out ot be Pixies, I think one of my festival buddies would pretty much die of extreme joy!

Apologies for all the questions :P

hey mate, are you going this yr? i need to make friends quick!

E-tickets include all your travel and you just have to show the print out on the train/bus if asked on the way there. When you exchange it for a wristband at the festival you will also be given a physical ticket and you have to show that on the way home. That was the procedure last year but all the info will be on the official site in the next couple of months. I've never actually used it though as we always hire a car so I don't know how strict they are on checking????

You could go to Hasselt if you want (it's a really lovely town and buses are free and run all the time) but my food/drink comment was actually about inside the arena. There's loads of houses on the main road outside the festival and many of the owners set up makeshift cafes in their front garden selling all sorts of food and drink. It's cheaper than inside the arena and you should be able to get everything you need there. Let's be honest though, it's a festival so you know you're going to eat crap all weekend and drink far too much whatever happens :P

Yep, it's another Main Stage headliner for Friday!!!

Don't apologise for asking questions, that's what the forum is for and it's great to chat with other people who are going - helps to make the time go faster and build up the excitment :P

Thanks Semprini, really useful info there.

Got one "yep, I'm going" and two that I need to turn the screw on, but looks like Pukkelpop 2010 is a go'er for us. Should be mint, one of the lads used to lived in Hasselt when working in Belgium so we'll be sticking round for a night after the fest so he can hit some of his old haunts.

Hoping to fly to either Antwerp or to Brussels then take advantage of the free train travel to the fest, arriving Wednesday.

One question cropped up today, sure I've seen it discussed but can't put my mouse on it, what's the deal with taking booze into the festival? I'm assuming that you can take it into the camp site, assuming it is not in glass, and that you cannot take your own into the festival "arena".

Assuming that is the case, do people take the smuggling approach to get a bit of alcohol in with them?

Thanks

TNU

Edit

Also, forgot to add. DO you get a free line-up thingy, like at Glastonbury, or do you have to purchase (or is it published on the website perhaps)

Cheers

Great stuff, thanks for the info.

I shall look forward to the Juplier, a drink of my younger days. Local off-licence sold it and me and my mates drank it almost exclusively as the cans featured Belgian footballers and we wanted to collect the full set, Emille and M'bo Empenza were responsible for many a hangover!

The beer inside the festival is Maes but there's a special beers tent near the Club that also serves cherry (Kriek), a white beer and one type of dark beer. There was also a couple of Cava stands last year (one near the special beers tent and the other near the Boiler Room) but there's no other types of alcohol on sale inside the arena.

As well as the nice booklet they give you on the way in, the set times will also be posted up on the official website at least two weeks before it all kicks off. You can customise your schedule and obviously print copies off but it's definitely worth allowing some time just to wander the site and see what you come across. The Chateau and Wablief? probably won't have too many 'big' names playing but they're both well worth popping in to if there's nothing else on you like.

I did wonder by the wording on the first announcement whether Boys Noize would be hosting a stage at Pukkelpop and he's confirmed that this will be the case. BNR will be taking over the Boiler Room on the last night (Saturday 21st August) - click here!. The only guess I would make as to who the special guest might be is Erol Alkan as he sometimes plays back to back with Boys Noise. I'm personally a bit disapointed they've done this as one of the things I love about the Boiler is how they mix up the DJ's and musical styles - on Thursday alone last year they had Busy P, Dr Lektroluv, Eric Prydz and Andy C all on one after the other. Basically if you don't like what's playing come back in an hour or so and something different will be on!! I'm not a huge fan of Boys Noize so a whole night of music by artists on his label doesn't sound too appealing, although I like some of the stuff I've heard so far by Housemeister.

This is an interesting one that will divide opinion - Kelis will, according to her record label, be playing on Thursday 19th August. I haven't really heard much of her stuff aside from the singles but I may give her a look depending on what else is on at the time.

With tickets coming out next Tuesday I think there will be an announcement either the end of this week or on Monday.

I wonder how likely it'll be that Boys Noize will clash with one of QOTSA, Soulwax, 2 Many DJs or Pendulum??

The Dance Arenas open until around 4am is that right? Would the headliners play last or around 1am like at I Love Techno?

They're still playing, it's just that I don't know which day yet. The ones I have listed have confirmed the day, either on their official website or on myspace.

As for Boys Noize and possible clashes, the headline DJ has always played from 11pm-1am on the final night so that would mean he would definitely clash with 2manydjs and possibly the end of QOTSA on the Main Stage. Whether he also clashes with Pendulum really depends on what stage they play. If they headline the Marquee or Dance Hall then it is likely they will overlap with Boys Noize but I think they may well play the Main Stage before QOTSA. He definitely won't clash with Soulwax though as the Dewaele brothers are of course 2manydjs so Soulwax will have to play earlier on in the evening.

To further update my earlier list Jonsi is playing on Saturday and it's Joker and MC Nomad not Rod Azlan.

    • Yet again we’re missing the WH Sunday reggae slot
    • Occident has got larger over the years and there's relatively little overlap with mbv and OR fans that I think it would work fine as it would divide the crowd so effectively.   They don't even need to give the biggest stage from an optics perspective either, this would be billed as a secret short set and used to promote her new album.
    • Really like this! Few artists a bit low I reckon like the Reytons, Yard Act, the Royston Club and Florence Road but I’d absolutely take this!
    • Yeah Olivia Rodrigo walked right past me when leaving the crowd during The Cure set.   I had to escape where I was in the crowd so was just chilling in the bottom left corner when she walked through with a couple of others.    Thought it was her or someone who looked incredibly like her but no-one else seemed to pick up on it, either not bothered or just too engrossed in their own conversations to not notice..
    • Why?   It’s all made up nonsense, an illusion for the masses.   Who do we owe these numbers on a server to, and how will they collect them?
