John-Paul Jones "hoping to play Glastonbury"

fantastic news if true. I was just going to post about the Stones and see if anyone thought we would get an update or confirmation of their status by Christmas. I was a bit worried that if it was true the Stones had been offered the slot and were considering it, that if they declined, it might be tough to get a suitable replacement and we may get a weak third headliner ["umm...Serge...now that you and your leicester clan have self-proclaimed yourselves the biggest band in britain, can you come help us out again just like u did last yr when our 4th headliner decided they couldnt' do it...this time instead of second from top special guest, we'll call you headliners!"] I mean, I can't see Radiohead going "oh yeah, you offered it to the Stones but they won't do it and now you want us then...hmm...."

However, Led Zeppelin at Glastonbury would just make my day... but before i get too excited i fear it may just be JPJ joining Robert Plant for a few songs during his Glasto set, with Them Crooked's playing their own set separately....

Interesting thread, with my usual response of " We can only pray and wish its true". How dare JPJ drop a hint like that. Much wetting of beds due to excitement if it happens!

Basically, i went to a Them Crooked Vultures gig in Blackpool last night and before the gig, when JPJ walked from his tour bus to the venue he came over and said hello to me and a few other people. We asked him all the usual fanboy stuff. he said he's still in regular contact with Plant and Page. didn't mention (but i think its ok to assume) jason bonham. But then i said "any chance of Led Zeppelin at Glastonbury next year?"

to which he responded "well, we're really hoping to organise something like that, but i don't know yet. don't quote me on that one."

so obviously the first thing i'm doing is quoting him on that one. make of it what you will. but as far as i'm concerned, straight from the horses mouth, that gives a pretty decent chance and i'm going to start getting excited right now.

Anyone else spoken to him? i guess this tour is the first real chance members of the public have had the chance to talk to led zep members in a while cos josh homme and dave grohl are both pretty chatty.

Watched "It Might Get Loud" yesterday featuring Page (as well as Jack White and The Edge) and f**k me that man can play, the best rock and roll band of all time.

I don't dispute that. I've often stated on these boards that having waited for the thick end of twenty years to see them play all together - having seen Plant a number of times, stretching back to Manic Nirvana tour, seen Page play with Aerosmith amongst others, seen Page / Plant Unleded - that the chances of me actually seeing the "full" band live are so small that even if they were to come on to the stage at Glasto and play Rock N' Roll as an opener. I'd still expect them to play the first few bars of Black Dog before looking at one another, and saying "Nah" and clearing off stage.

What does annoy me is the attitude of people who say "I've seen them, I hope they don't get back together because that makes me more special". I don't even get that annoyed by those who say "I've seen them, and I don't think they should get back together becasue they won't be as good as they once were". I can get that. But to deny others the chance solely so you - and I don't mean specifically 'you' here - can brag a bit about having seen them gets my wild up.

Having seen the Stones a few times, I'd prefer Zeppelin. But point taken about the guitar solos. Of course the real concern would be that Jason Bonham tries to recreate the fifteen minute long-live version of Moby Dick ....

Eric Clapton playing Stormy Monday for example. Or an extended version on Shine On You Crazy Diamond with Gilmour hitting those high notes.

They have set the standard by announcing u2 on the first night! last night always for biggest acts, as Stones are still favourites to headline and both JPJ and Plant have dropped lines they want to be there, what's saying they won't for such a historic one off event? when will the next headliner be announced?

I am going to the premiere tonight, can't wait. First heard about the film 2 years ago and f**k knows why it took them so long to show it in the UK, everybody else seems to have seen it by now.

Zep at Glasto would be a dream come true. I have seen them at the O2 after 23 years of waiting but seeing them at Glasto would be just heinous...

seeing as saturday has become the 'premier' night it does make sense that a truly massive band will have band will be playing, how else do you top U2.

having said that, i find it hard to believe that plant will do the zep thing.
