I just think the band will see accepting anything less than a headline slot as a step down for them particularly in the UK were they are very popular and sell out pretty much every gig they do here.

u2 always do, while i've found muse other throughout this decade go from awesome to 'meh' on various occasions (seen both bands a stupid amount of times)

like neil said, if there's going to be bigger bands / other 'mega acts' (e.g led zep, floyd, rolling stones etc) on the bill, there's no way muse will headline.

Weren't all The Muse fans saying last year they were bound to be the Park hidden act and wouldn't even be headliners there, because of the clues and they were desperate to play Glastonbury.

If they are "desperate" to play Glastonbury and have begged Michael Eavis, I'm sure they wouldn't say we want to play but only as headliners, get rid of say Rolling Stones, so we can play. If they really do want to play second to one of the mega-acts ain't really going to be a step down.

Either way, I saw them last night on Jonathon Ross, there is absolutely no way I'm going to watch them.

U2 I might be inclined if I really don't like Saturday headliners (and Muse are Sunday headliners).

I think that if they were not given a headline slot at Glastonbury then they would of gone to Reading and Leeds ( I know nothing is comfirmed, it may aswell be though). They have spoke recently how they want to be the biggest act in the world, they won't want to play under bigger acts in my eyes ( I know it sounds bad, but would you want to play second with a shorter set? And they won't be able to put on a muse like 'show') I'm going for a Sunday headline slot and ME will have told them to really pull the stops out and they can do what they want with the stage (within reason due to time between acts). David Bowie for Saturday though please

Muse are arguably a bigger band than The Stones at the moment. Could the Stones sell out 2 dates at Wembley as quick? I don't know.

The thing is with Glastonbury is that The Stones would look like a more legendary band and therefore more suited to a headline spot. With Muse being there it cuts down the Stones option I'd say

I'm not totally sure if i will see Muse, I am a big fan of Showbiz and Origin but not to massive on the last two efforts. Starlight and Uprising are good songs though and as is Knights of Cydonia. I keep hearing by so many people they are incredible live so it will really depend if there is somebody else on another stage which I prefer.

I am 20 and can see that actually yes they could sell out 2 nights at Wembley easily. Since when did Muse play to 1000000 in Brazil and have the highest grossing tour of all time? They could sell out Wembley 3 to 5 nights running if they wanted - they just have a different demographic audience of which there are quite a lot at Glasto. I would never pay to see them on tour but can't wait to see them at Glasto next year (albeit not as much as Muse). Why am I so sure? They announced a 2010 world tour 2 days ago and have been a rumour and bookies favourites for a good few months.

Radiohead? No chance!

regards the whole will muse accept a non-headline slot for a bigger act, I think the more pertinant question is, unless Muse have offered it for free, would glasto go out to spend more money just for the sake of it considering they've already got a headline stature band....

U2 wouldn't have been cheap and the bands rumoured (Rolling Stones, Prince, Zep etc) similar. Prince was reported to have got $4-5m for Coachella. I just don't see the monster acts doing it for free; a lesser price than usual perhaps but still a hefty chunk of the budget.

Surely GFL are more likely to invest more money in a stronger undercard.

I suppose on the money stakes it all depends on the negotiations, at which I'm told ME is a canny old bugger. Plus there must be a cache to playing a big slot at Glasto, so the money may not be as big a deal.

Put it this way. You're a big successful act with more cash than you can count or imagine. Say you can command £5M for a big stadium date. Then your manager approaches you and says that ME wants you to play the 40th Anniversary Glastonbury Festival but can only pay £500K. For me, I'd do it as it is a legendary and well respected festival with loads of TV coverage so won't do your profile any harm. It will expose you to a segment of people who wouldn't ordinarily turn out for one of your shows and therefore could get you some new fans (assuming you do a good show). Plus if you're pseudo-political-w*nkstain like Bonio, it suits your public image.

They did, but that was in the US where Muse aren't as big. It could go either way tbh. Muse could well do a non headlining spot, even thou they deserve one. They've not got a huge ego and if ME asked nicely then they might step down a place. But personaly I think they'll headline, wherever/whenever they play it will be mobbed.
