Speaking of George Martin (from the comic book thread), been listening to In My Life recently, the 1998 album of Beatle covers he produced.

Its mostly terrible cash-in-on-post-anthology-fame fodder, but this is fookin class. Especially from 1 min 40.

This is cool too. Hes played it regularly since.

my godfather is (was?) Ken Thorne... he wrote that (or arranged it, or something...

never met him

Sir Jeffrey... amazing!

if we're playing that game, Jeff Beck's missus (or perhaps now an ex?) used to drink in the same pub as me, and her sister used to hang out in my flat. :P

(like I know you could, I can do better stories than that if I cared to. I like that one cos it's suitably banal )

IS your Godfather.

He did the score for The Monkees film "Head". A serious pothead in his day I bet.

The Night Before!!

The Word!!

Its a setlist thats untouchable anywhere in music. His setlists will always be like that.

Cracking tune. One of the very few they wrote together stoned.

Makes me sad that Lennon isn't around to run on stage and sing the "in the beginning" middle eight bit. :(

Saw him in Manchester on Monday for the first time and I must say he was excellent. Same setlist as Liverpool bar Mull and Ram On I think.

Eleanor Rigby onwards was unbelievable and tracks such as Ob la Di and Let Me Roll It which I'm not a huge fan of sounded great. Hope to see him again soon.

Two of my favourite George Harrison related songs are "I'll See You In My Dreams" performed by his friend Joe Brown at the Memorial Concert for George.

I saw him do it a couple of years ago and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

And this

George with the Traveling Wilburys.

John's voice on the trailer singing Twist & Shout (about 20" in)!!! oh my god..

Paul's isn't bad on Long Tall Sally either...

They were raw as anything then and hadn't been ruined by the screaming. Still a bit of Hamburg left in them.

Speaking of raw rock and roll, good to see Chuck Berry as one of the interviewees. Just finished his autobiography. Really good. Also been watching this concert from the great man.

he's so sloppy live.. sometimes good.. that's the intro to something else, maybe Johnny B Goode, it ain't Carol

but he never bothered too much about the finer details, like what song he might be playing. That version of Carol (or whatever it is...!) just about falls apart in the middle. It's like he's singing one song and playing another

bless him

Yeah he couldn't give a toss. I think this was when he started playing with pick up bands. Lands in a city, goes to a blues bar, goes up to the house band after - "Wanna play with me tonight? Lets go".

As Springsteen put it -

    • sub yes I could see but I don't think they get 1hr 15, a headliner starting at 18:15 though is unlikely. Even the recent co-headlines that have had like 1hr 15 then a 1hr 30 after were on 8pm or just before, you are trailing behind more than 1.5 hours then. In that scenario some 3rd down bands are only starting at 18:15 and some haven't lol. I agree they won't not book them due to this but it won't be 6 headliners. It would be 5 headliners and you wouldn't want to see 5 headliners booked but Biffy were to not be thouhgt of as an option for one. Wolf Alice on the other hand could sub no bother and you'd think nothing of it. I'm not so sure Biffy would get headline though after the festival choice in Kendal this year.
    • Definitely. UKIP also used Merkel welcoming 1 million Afgans to Europe in 2015 during the brexit vote.   Politicians in other countries within the EU know the are going to lose voters to parties to the right of them over stuff like this and they've no control over it.
    • I think it will very much vary on who there is to book who they know will sell out a day.    They’ve co-headline and full headline stuff in future, there no reason at all they won’t do it again, even if it means cutting someone’s set by 15 mins or having a band less in a big bands day…   They’re not going to not book Foo fighters and instead get the equivalent of Florence and C&S just to not have a band do a big set…   …unless of course they think it will make them more money…
    • Maybe some right wing leaders like Meloni are just playing to their base, like Reform have been here talking about them ending up at Calais.
    • Citizenship via investment programs basically work by saying if you invest this much in our economy (say buy a property worth x) then we will either grant you citizenship or residency with a route to it. The EU has rules on how low countries can set the bar. Montenegro was one of the easier ones to get and they've had to tighten it up.
