Chuck's songs sound very similar, and on the face of it they are, but the subtle differences are what makes them different. We used to get harmonica players, guitarists etc coming up to us at gigs saying "can I play a song with you" and sometimes we'd say "maybe, which one?", and they'd say "oh, any Chuck Berry song... they're all the same!" No they're not, and if you don't know the arrangement, it'll all fall apart after the first verse... what is it now.. another verse? chorus? the intro again? is it a straight 12 bar? does it go down to the 3rd at the end of the verse or stay on the 4th, etc etc

Too right. A lot of people think its just the standard Chuck into followed by a standard 2 mins 50 rock tune.

That said, I LOVE the blatant similarities in the intros to the two songs below. Comedic genius.

Myself and a couple of mates went up to Donegal to see him a few years back, bit of a hike and one of the very few "tick the box gigs" I've ever gone too (actually the only one I can think of), but when we saw the club he was playing the night before the gig we wondered was it really going to be him? The great Chuck Berry in some tiny little club in Letterkenny! Cant be right surely?

The in joke for the weekend was that we fucked up and it was a tribute act - the intro was going to be "And now, ladies and gentlemen - "BUCK CHERRY"!!

I'm lucky enough to have a copy of the Love Me Do 50th anniversary withdrawn single. EMI released the version with Alan White on drums and Ringo on tambourine by mistake. They have now recalled alll pressings and deleted the title. only a few thousand in circulation I believe.
