Another bloody flag thread

I see that reading and leed have banned flags for this years festival in the arena.

The replies on NME are pretty much all about Glasto and the general thoughts are ban em at glasto.

They never used to bother me, but after this year it was ridiculous!

Do you think that glasto might seriously consider imposing something like this? They must know alot of people really cant stand it and complain?

But then that would mean no flag circle on the pyrmid field, and what about jazz world?!

I wouldn't miss the flags, they add nothing to the experiance, they just get in the way and are really annoying.

No-one used to bother with them, they only started appearing when tv started coming so people could point themselves out on tv.

If they had performers name on them like ' springsteen we love you ' or similar but they don't its just ' hello mum ' or ' I am here ' or england flag or smiley face and when they get home put the recording on and look everyone thats me there with the big yellow flag blocking everyones view and pissing people off.

Get rid please.

At V the crowd pelt them till they take them down! The crowd pick a particular one - chant the name of it til everyone is sure which one to aim for and then the torrent begins!

I like flags myself but have to admit this is good fun, and a whole new flag dimension! Just empty cups and plastic bottles - nothing dangerous. It certainly passes the time while you're waiting for a band to come on.

I always remember someone having Yoda on a stick and the crowd began to steadily chant "YODA! YODA! YODA! The Yoda bearer took it down quickly, but then a few moments later put it back up armed with it's light sabre! Very funny - but even with the force with him Yoda didn't survive long after that!

Anyway - thats why you don't see many flags at V!

Straight forward solution ... ban flag poles from the site. Make it so you can only hire special Glastonbury flag poles within the site that are coloured in a distinctive way so everyone knows if they're official or not. They can even be free with a deposit scheme. Planted within each Glastonbury pole is a tracking chip and a small explosive device. If the flag pole goes within a predetermined perimeter around the stage (100m or so) then the pole blows up. The offending punter loses their hand and the deposit. Simple

Silly idea I think, a full out ban surely can't work? I personally like the flags and didn't find it particularly hard to see past them although I must admit it did look bad for Bruce.

Maybe try and just cut down the amount of flags present instead of doing an all out ban...

Not very difficult...

you know those BIG SCREENS that everyne looks at for info throughout the duration of the weekend...

one message...

Please do not bring/use flags in the arena.

There!

Easy!

Wasnt difficult was it?

100,000 people will spot a flag up pretty easily and the righteous ones will self police probably/hopefully.

If it doesnt work... again...easy...get a GFL bod to go on stage and politely ask for flags to come down.

The same should go for the camping chairs too...but that is yet another repetitve thread innit?

Simple mate, just have a rule of flags and poles in the campsites and nowhere else. Easy to police. No one really has an excuse to be walking around with a flag up the air even if they are moving camp. Its bad when twats have flags at the tented venues. c**ts I say....

If you want to meet your mates, just arrange a place, and if you miss each other boo f**king hoo.

The problem is, as I see it, that you can't legislate for selfish c*nts. Flags are a matter of thoughtlessness and selfishness. They started out interesting and have become, as already pointed out, an attention seeking load of bollox. Personally I'd be very embarrassed if I was blocking people's views with such a thing. But we're just generally becoming more and more self righteous over the pettiest of things. As for the chairs, as someone with hip/leg problems I do sometimes use a chair. But I don't bring it into the busy parts near stages and I don;t stick it on a bloody bonfire when I'm done! Chairs should stay at the back otherwise they become hazardous. Anyway the items aren't the issue, it's people's attitudes which need amending.

I hate the idea of Glastonbury banning flags though. 'Ban' and 'Glastonbury' as a combination makes me sad. Freedom of expression people. Even if that freedom says 'I am a gimp.'

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
