The Programme

Wouldn't it be a lot better to send out the programme with the tickets?

I never get round to reading the programme actually at the festival because I''m too busy, chatting, getting drunk, dancing, etc (delete as appropriate). The only section I read is the timings.

I get home read through the programme and seee loads of bands that intrigue me.

It would also be ideal reading material for the journey to festival from Dirty Leeds. The bits when I'm not driving at least.

Good call.. it's not like the tickets go out months in advance when the programme isn't ready, is it.. Really once the line-up is out, the programme should be ready to roll too. Unless Q or NME (whoever publishes the official line-up in their mag) don't want their sales hurt..

Actually, I reckon this isn't a bad idea at all - it would give all of us more time to read the articles properly and organise who we're going to see etc. before we even get to the festival. Would also really get everyone even more excited before the festival. Good for the advertisers too in the programme as they will get longer more 'reasoned' attention and exposure; good for the OXfam stewards as well having less welcome bag stuff to put together - less to carry in to site. Possibly many people would only make do with the fine guide then on site - less rubbish - people more likely to keep the programme anyway.

Yep, postal costs might go up, but Royal Mail do it all by weight now rather than size don't they? Private deliverers may do it even cheaper just to get the business.

It's a bad idea. Would probably result in increased ticket costs (although the mere changing of the seasons seems to do that), many people would forget their's and be forced to buy one, it is fun to finally set the tent up and have a look at the programme with a nice beer and smoke, would probably be inaccurate.

What are the pros? You get to read it a few days earlier and sort out your timetable?

I like how it is. You get there and get your tent set up, empty your bag into the tent. Grab a chair and a beer and sit and read the programme. Normally in a big circle with everyone going "oooooh I didn't realise x were here this year" and someone replying "yes, you did, I told you about 4 times, God, you never listen to me, I knew it, more interested in the football/rugby/porn" then you get your first Glasto argument. Perfect!

I disagree. I love reading the program with my first few tins of the day, or cider in the sun around the jazz stage. One of the greatest moments in life.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
    • Shambles. Transport and comms garbage. Been looking forward to this since last June and have never been to a more disorganised festival in 30+ years.  Why we were told the whole festival was cancelled for the night if they had put back shows for a few hours?  Pissed off to say the very least and put a huge downer on the rest of the weekend.
