I think Murray's going to be talked about in the same terms as colin montgomery

What, people are going to get his surname wrong?

  • 1 year later...

bump

(under the new forum layout you can't see the previous tags, but it should read "Andy Murray loses")

If he could have picked any of the top three to play in the final before the tournament started, I think Federer would have been his pick as well.

I have a pair of friends who made a £100 bet 4 years ago:

The bet was whether Andy Murray would win a Grand Slam before friend A got his PhD. Friend A said he would, Friend B said he wouldn't. Friend A got his PhD today and has paid up his £100, its written in the stars that Murray will win it 48hrs later. I'll laugh so hard.

Come on Muzza!

edit: sorry Paul, went straight to the search, didn't realise you had already bumped it

Amazing effort from Andy. But, the best player to ever played the game was just too good for him. Federer just turned it on after the rain delay.

Murray can certainly hold his head up high after that performance though.

And that is the most emotional I think he's probably ever been. He was a blubbering wreck at the end.

Murray played better than the other grand slam finals and more positive, sometimes you have to hold your hands up and admit you lost to the better man. He may have a natural arrogance but watching federer in full flow is a joy.

I hope he wins a grand slam but they are tough in this era. It's not like he has had a gimee in a final, he has played top players who played well. Compare Murray to someone like rafter who both have had 4 grand slam finals. Rafter played goran, sampras, rusedski and philipousis. Murray has played the worlds greatest ever 3 times and djokovic once. I suspect if he had been both 6 or 7 years earlier things would have been very different.

    • I got in for £11.25 in the end, which was absolutely ridiculously good value, and made the queues and overselling of the venue much more tolerable! Sniping in on other people’s unwanted tickets on the day of an event might become my new hobby I think 🥳
    • Ann and Nancy Wilson are planning a final world tour for HEART starting next year. They were never at Glastonbury. They should do it.
    • sub yes I could see but I don't think they get 1hr 15, a headliner starting at 18:15 though is unlikely. Even the recent co-headlines that have had like 1hr 15 then a 1hr 30 after were on 8pm or just before, you are trailing behind more than 1.5 hours then. In that scenario some 3rd down bands are only starting at 18:15 and some haven't lol. I agree they won't not book them due to this but it won't be 6 headliners. It would be 5 headliners and you wouldn't want to see 5 headliners booked but Biffy were to not be thouhgt of as an option for one. Wolf Alice on the other hand could sub no bother and you'd think nothing of it. I'm not so sure Biffy would get headline though after the festival choice in Kendal this year.
    • Definitely. UKIP also used Merkel welcoming 1 million Afgans to Europe in 2015 during the brexit vote.   Politicians in other countries within the EU know the are going to lose voters to parties to the right of them over stuff like this and they've no control over it.
